ALEKSANDR NESTERENKO ART DEKO

A superb piece of individual and elegant beauty, the Art Deko watch by emerging Russian independent watchmaker Aleksandr Nesterenko is a watch which formally announces the arrival of another young talent to the wider international community of collectors and connoisseurs of artisanal watchmaking.

With much of the watch fabricated by hand in Nesterenko’s home city of Saint Petersburg, whose magnificent architecture provided inspiration for its sophisticated styling, the Art Deko is certainly an impressive piece, and throughout it boasts a remarkable level of detail and exceptional finishing, and in particular a dial which is breathtaking in its artistry.

Equally adaptable as a dress watch or simply as an accompaniment to a smart casual look, the Art Deko is presented in a stainless steel case which measures 42mm across, and features polished bezel and upward facing surfaces, with a brushed waist.

Beneath a gently domed sapphire crystal, the dial and hands are beautifully executed. A two part outer band in grey features a black minutes track, with fine roman numerals in white print around the edge, while immediately inset, the applied hour indices stand out in royal blue, and taper to points. The polished hour and minute hands are Nesterenko signatures, with pronounced ‘pomme’ circles just before their arrow-point tips.

Most striking of all is the mesmerising pattern of guilloché decoration which engraved deep into the deep blue surface of the dial’s central panel. Overlapping rings swirl outwards from the centre to create an intense ripple effect which plays with the light and irresistibly catches the eye. Machined by hand using traditional guilloché rose engine, it is outstandingly accomplished.

On the underside of the watch, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals a manual winding Russian-made Raketa Cal 2609 movement. Disassembled and finished by Aleksandr Nesterenko, the large three quarter plate has a circular brushed finish, while the balance cock features a coarse grainy frosting. Beating at 21’600 vib/h (3hz) the single barrel provides a power reserve of at least forty two hours.

With each piece individually manufactured, no two Art Deko pieces are identical, and with dial variations and movement finishing options also available, each one is uniquely exclusive.
