Konstantin Chaykin Joker Golden Mask

Instantly recognisable, and adored by collectors around the world, Konstantin Chaykin’s ‘Wrist Monster’ series of timepieces has become an icon of contemporary independent watchmaking. Known affectionately in the industry as Wristmons, these evocative, complex pieces are an excellent example of holistic design, with the individual indications of the dial merging with the mechanical components to create a wonderful impish face with boggle eyes and a crazed, grinning mouth. Referencing the mythical ‘Iron Mask’, Konstantin’s latest addition to  his highly desirable Wristmon collection, the Joker Golden Mask, will have a limited production of only 100 pieces per year.

On the skeletonised dial, the hours and minutes are indicated via rotating discs and blued steel rings that resemble pupils, giving an unconventional yet intuitively easy to read display. Joining them, a red rectangular window indicates the weekday on a curving googly mouth-like aperture, while eye-brow shaped bridges and a ruby-set button nose completes the character’s quirky face.

The model is powered by the calibre K.09-1, based on the G200 automatic movement by prestigious movement maker, La Joux-Perret. Operating at a frequency of 28’800 vib/h and with a power reserve of 68 hours, the movement is modified to include the in-house Joker module, which on its own comprises of 140 components. Meticulously hand-finished with old-school watchmaking techniques, the plates and bridges of the Joker indication module are frosted with grain-texturing, and feature gold-plating, with the resplendent appearance recalling the high-end beauty of pocket watches from the 18th and 19th centuries. Displayed through the sapphire caseback, the exclusive gold-plated rotor is skeletonised with the Konstantin Chaykin logo.

Manufactured from stainless steel, the case of the Konstantin Chaykin Joker Golden Mask measures 40mm diameter, with a height of 12.78mm. Fitted with two crowns, and with a distinctive notched bezel that displays engravings of the four suits of a playing card deck with the Joker at the 12, it is beautifully decorated with a brushed finish. The model is limited to 100 pieces per year, and comes presented on a black leather strap.
