From one of the treasures of Swiss independent watchmaking, the brand new 240º collection from Saint-Imier-based Zeitwinkel marks the introduction of a collection of contemporary watches, which are defined by their sporty personality, yet which also maintain a firm connection with the brand’s trend-averse approach to watch design.
Always leaning towards aesthetics which defy fast-moving fads, Zeitwinkel watches are typically understated in their styling, yet exude a modern, timeless quality which does not date. Distilling those values into a new creation, the 240º is the result of almost ten years of design and development, which encapsulates the Zeitwinkel zeitgeist
Superbly engineered throughout, and powered by a fully in-house designed and developed self winding movement, the 240º is presented in an all-new case of 904L stainless steel, which measures 40.5mm across, and features a screw-down crown, with protecting ‘shoulders’ either side, contributing to the watch’s water resistance of 10ATM (100 metres), and fitted on natural caoutchouc rubber straps, emphasises their appetite for adventure, and accentuates their robust, go-anywhere character.
As ever, attention to detail is a key element of every Zeitwinkel watch, and from the finely veined radial guilloché pattern at the centre of the dial, to the uneven texture of the inner ring, and on to the smooth finish of the chapter ring itself, each section is a gently elevated step, giving the dial a sense of depth. The presence of minute numerals around the exterior, on the surface of the bezel, separates the hours from the minutes, and adds to the legibility of the display, which is further enhanced by the applied luminous-filled numerals and hands.
Inside, the 240º is powered by the Zeitwinkel Calibre ZW0102 automatic, self-winding movement, which, apart from the hairspring and rubies, is produced entirely in-house, in the company’s Saint-Imier ateliers. Manufactured in German Silver, the ZW0102 boasts a power reserve of 72 hours, and operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800vib/h).
The new Zeitwinkel 240º will be made available in two versions.
The ‘standard’ 240º comes with a medium grey PVD coating on the case, and this is complemented by a range of dial colours, with blue, red or orange options to choose from, all with colour coded caoutchouc rubber straps, while a medium grey case, dial and strap combination gives the watch a striking monochrome colourway.
Alternatively, the all-black DLC of the 240º Noir is coupled with a black dial; a combination against which the luminous elements on the dial stand out even more prominently. In keeping with the all-black theme, the movement and skeletonised oscillating weight have been treated with a ‘Black Or’ coating.
A stylish and practical watch with a personality which is equally at home on a hike, pottering around on the lake, or in the quayside bar with friends, the Zeitwinkel 240º is versatile and as individual as its owner.
