WALTZ N°1 DAY & NIGHT BY CARL SUCHY

With a striking monochrome aesthetic, the Waltz N°1 Day & Night watch by Carl Suchy is a resolutely contemporary timepiece produced in a limited edition of ten pieces. Exhibiting the distinguished lineage of a marque that was once one of the world’s Grande Maisons of watchmaking, this is a dynamic model which combines design finesse with an avant-garde personality. Boasting high-end Swiss micro-mechanics, the piece is also equipped with a sophisticated and beautifully arranged Swiss mechanical self-winding calibre by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier.

An acclaimed watchmaker of his time, Carl Suchy founded his company in Prague in1822. Expanding throughout Europe, timepieces created in his workshops were highly sought-after and often found their way into the collections of those in elite society and within the royal courts throughout the area. Now re-awakened after laying dormant for almost a century the name Suchy is once again associated with timepieces of prestige within the watchmaking landscape.

An elegant yet daring piece, the Waltz N°1 Day & Night watch is presented in a rounded stainless steel case sized at 41.5mm which has been finished with a hardwearing Amorphous Diamond-Like Carbon (ADLC) surface, ensuring its stealthy coating will have longevity. Featuring gently sloping lugs and a rounded bezel, it has perfect dress watch proportions, resting at just 9.3mm high on the wrist.

Conforming to the architecture of the case, the sapphire crystal has a domed profile and curving up to meet it, the galvanised dial is a distinctive feature which displays contrasting black and white elements. Upon this pairing of sharply defined shades, delicate guilloché decoration has been employed,  using vertical striping on the left, and horizontal on the right. The differing techniques and colour tones are at variance with one another, yet their duality integrates to create a dial surface which is outstanding. At the six o’clock, and featuring the same duo of guilloché finishes and colours, an ingenious little running seconds display rotates in a gentle pirouette. Only once per minute will it align and match with the decorative portions and colours of the dial, yet as it performs each charming whirl, it evokes the entrancing charm of the celebrated Viennese Waltz dance. Allowing the guilloché to dominate, the indications are discreet, with polished hands and, at every hour, a polished, minimalist marker, each one crafted to curve upward with the contour of the dial. Just beneath the 12 o’clock, the crest and branding represent the provenance of the piece.

On the underside of the watch, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the beautifully arranged and decorated VMF 5401 movement by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. At just 2.6mm high, the extra-flat calibre features a decentralised gold-plated rotor, and it showcases meticulous Côtes de Genève finishing and hand-polished angles. Running at 21’600 vib/hr, the movement delivers a 48 hour power reserve. Giving each model added status every Carl Suchy Waltz N°1 timepiece will be hand-assembled by celebrated Master watchmaker, Marc Jenni.

A masterful and stylish piece which represents the grandeur of a historically significant horological name, combined with the styling codes and sophisticated mechanics required for a modern day dress watch, this Carl Suchy Waltz N°1 Day & Night edition is released in an exclusive series of 10 pieces. Presented on a black alligator  leather strap, it is secured to the wrist by an engraved folding clasp in stainless steel.
