WALTZ N°1 BY CARL SUCHY – BLACK STEEL WITH BLACK DIAL

A superb example of a contemporary dress watch, the Waltz N°1 black steel with black dial watch by independent watch company Carl Suchy, demonstrates the distinguished lineage of a marque that was once one of the world’s Grande Maisons of watchmaking. Boasting a striking duo of a black ADLC steel case and dial, the model has a sporty personality, while also exhibiting nuances of cultured elegance. The piece is also equipped with a sophisticated and beautifully arranged Swiss mechanical self-winding calibre by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier.

An acclaimed watchmaker of his time, Carl Suchy founded his company in Prague in1822. Expanding throughout Europe, timepieces created in his workshops were highly sought-after and often found their way into the collections of those in elite society and within the royal courts throughout the area. Now re-awakened after laying dormant for almost a century the name Suchy is once again associated with timepieces of prestige within the watchmaking landscape.

The Waltz N°1 edition with black case and black dial watch is, from every aspect a timepiece characterised by masterful styling and noble refinement. It carries a rounded stainless steel case sized at 41.5mm, which has been finished with a hardwearing Amorphous Diamond-Like Carbon (ADLC) surface, ensuring its stealthy coating will have longevity. Featuring gently sloping lugs and a rounded bezel, it rests just 9.3mm on the wrist, demonstrating perfect dress watch proportions.

Conforming to the architecture of the case, the sapphire crystal has a domed profile and curving up to meet it, the moody ADLC coated dial has the delicate refinement of guilloché decoration. Employed using vertical striping on the left, and horizontal on the right, the differing techniques are at variance with one another, yet together they integrate to create a harmonious effect. At the six o’clock, an ingenious little running seconds display rotates in a gentle pirouette. Only once per minute will it align with the other decorative portions of the dial,  yet as it performs each charming whirl, it evokes the entrancing charm of the celebrated Viennese Waltz dance. Allowing the guilloché to dominate, the indications are discreet, with polished hands and, at every hour, a polished, minimalist marker, each crafted to curve upward with the contour of the dial. Just beneath the 12 o’clock, the crest and branding represent the provenance of the piece.

On the underside of the watch, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the beautifully arranged and decorated VMF 5401 movement by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. At just 2.6mm high, the extra-flat calibre features a decentralised gold-plated rotor, and it showcases meticulous Côtes de Genève finishing and hand-polished angles. Running at 21’600 vib/hr, the movement delivers a 48 hour power reserve. Giving each model added status every Carl Suchy Waltz N°1 timepiece will be hand-assembled by celebrated Master watchmaker, Marc Jenni.

A stunning piece which represents the grandeur of a historically significant horological name, combined with the styling codes and sophisticated mechanics required for a modern day dress watch, this Carl Suchy Waltz N°1 edition with black case and black dial is released in a limited production series. Presented on a black alligator  leather strap, it is secured to the wrist by an engraved folding clasp in stainless steel.
