VICENTERRA TYCHO BRAHE

A piece of great beauty and elegant sophistication, the superb Tycho Brahe by independent Swiss watch maker Vicenterra is a wristwatch with a truly enchanting personality, with its unique dial configuration which features an off-centred time display and a revolving three dimensional globe, upon which the geographic regions of daylight are depicted as the hours of daylight pass across the face of our planet earth.

Inspired by the life and accomplishments of Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, whose naked eye observations of the celestial mysteries in the night sky in the 1500s proved to be profoundly accurate, this 99-piece limited edition Vicenterra tribute features a premium grade Swiss made self winding mechanism, which has been modified with an in-house designed and developed module for the earth/daylight animation.

The Vicenterra Tycho Brahe is presented in a case of Grade 5 titanium, which measures 42.8mm across and 11.5mm tall, and features an off centred crown at the two o’clock position, with a pusher at the four to adjust the position of the earth globe to local or home time. A concave waist which flows from lug tip to lug tip accentuates the curvaceous contours of the case design.

Beneath the sapphire crystal, the hours, minutes and seconds are displayed on a reduced, decentralised dial, which is positioned directly above the movement in the upper section of the face. The stepped dial features applied indices and with an application of Super LumiNova on the steel spear-like hour and minute hands, excellent legibility is assured in all light conditions. Additionally, a porthole-like aperture at the three o’clock displays the date.

Below the time display, the revolving globe is a recurring signature feature on the Vicenterra collections, and on Tycho Brahe, this miniature earth is hand painted. Cleverly the numeral five on the dial is replaced with an oversized V, which also serves as a pointer to indicate the earth’s position relative to the sun. In effect, this captivating feature is a visual GMT indicator, which illustrates the passage of daylight across the planet from 6am to 6pm, as the globe rotates on a twenty-four hour cycle.

Inside, a premium grade Swiss ETA 2892 self winding movement has been coupled with the Vicenterra GMT module, which enables the unique animated functionality of the display. Beating at 28’800 vib/h (4hz), it boasts a power reserve of at least forty-two hours. A round window on the steel caseback offers a view of the bespoke Vicenterra oscillating weight, while another smaller aperture reveals the underside of the globe.

A fabulous piece with an individual and enchanting personality, the Vicenterra Tycho Brahe is available in a number of configurations, with black or blue dial options, as well as the choice of a black pvd titanium case. A wristwatch which offers exceptional value for money, it is presented on a hand stitched calfskin leather strap with folding deployant clasp
