GoS Sky Is The Limit

A Spectacular Collaboration

In every respect this is a truly spectacular edition, featuring an abundance of exquisite nuances, together with the intricate execution that has become a signature feature of the GoS portfolio. Beautifully arranged throughout, the Sarek Sky Is The Limit demonstrates an appreciation for high-end horological finishing which is at the ethos of both The Limited Edition, and also GoS watches. Working closely on the final design of the piece, Patrik Sjögren from GoS and Pietro Tomajer of The Limited Edition have created an exclusive collaborative 5 piece edition boasting a breathtaking dial whose uniquely toned mother of-pearl surface shimmers by day, and becomes a striking illuminated spectacle after dark. From its sculptural profile to its visually arresting dial, themes of Scandinavian culture pervade throughout this exceptional limited edition model. Within its styling, it includes elements that recall the design of ancient Viking jewellery and weaponry, together with the unmistakable characteristics of Damascus steel, which as pioneers of its use since their founding in 2007, GoS have turned into an art form, and indeed one of the Swedish brand’s most defining signatures. Created both in tribute to the long-standing relationship between GoS and Pietro Tomajer, and also to celebrate a landmark year for the team at The Limited Edition, the Sarek Sky Is The Limit watch underscores a shared admiration for Independent Watchmaking artisanship.

Endless Skies

Crafted from slivers of white mother-of-pearl, the dial has been hand-applied with Super-LumiNova specially created for this model on its underside, so that it brims with iridescent shades of blue. Crafted as an ode to the endless skies and wildness of Sweden’s Sarek National Park, it evokes quiet beauty during daylight hours, transforming after dark to emit an ethereal blue glow. So distinctive are the tapering GoS sword-shaped hour and minutes hands that the dial requires no branding or logo to denote its provenance, and the arrangement also allows the gorgeous texture and tones of the mother-of-pearl dial surface to remain uncluttered. In a final design flourish, the index ring is crafted from hand-blown Swedish crystal, with hand-painted markers for each hour, and it is recessed into the dial so that it rises up to meet the bezel adding a sense of depth at the perimeter.

Nordic Nuances

Following a similar design language to other models in the prestigious Sarek collection, the Sky Is The Limit watch is presented in a stainless steel case, sized at 41.5mm with a height of 11mm. Upon it sides, the sculpted fluting detailing which is inspired by Viking bracelets is finished with contrasting polished and satin techniques, while the hilt-shaped crown speaks further of the Nordic influences that are infused throughout this beautiful piece. Renowned for their exceptional hand-finished detailing, GoS were also forerunners of the use of Damascus steel in the industry. Hand forged through a process of folding, layering and bonding multiple layers of molten steels from the extreme heat of the furnace, the material was originally used for the manufacture of Viking bladed weapons thanks to its great strength. This signature feature of GoS was chosen to enhance the bezel of this celebratory model, with the unique intricate texturing adding further to the exclusivity of each model, and also rounding off the core Scandinavian styling codes of the piece.

The GoS x The Limited Edition Sarek Sky Is The Limit watch is powered by the G101 automatic calibre, operating at a frequency of 28’800 vib/h, with power reserve of 65 hours. Manufactured by La Joux-Perret to the requirements of GoS, the calibre has a contemporary anthracite finish, and the skeletonised rotor is further embellished with the distinctive Triskele symbol at its centre and applied nano ceramic. Available in a limited series of only 5 pieces, the model wears on a hand-made Salmon leather strap, secured with a pin buckle.

Established in 2015, under the direction of luxury watch industry veteran and GPHG Academy Member Pietro Tomajer, this year The Limited Edition celebrates its tenth anniversary. Born from a passion for craftsmanship, individualism and creativity, the ethos of The Limited Edition remains unchanged and, as the company reflects on its first decade, its clients can be assured that its dedicated team will continue to promote exclusive and small series pieces from both the Masters and also the rising stars of Independent Watchmaking. Since its inception the company has introduced a global community of collectors to the artisan Haute Horlogerie of the independent watchmaking landscape, and with a current portfolio that encompasses the timepieces of the most prestigious independent ateliers, The Limited Edition continues to evolve, bringing the pinnacle of this genre to its clients.
