Romain Jerome Steampunk Black Chrono

Through a combination of contemporary designs and historical references, Romain Jerome achieve originality throughout their Air, Earth and Sea collections. Their "DNA of Famous Legends" concept adds something special to the mix, giving each piece exclusivity - a characteristic which is finding favour with watch collectors throughout the world.

The Romain Jerome Steampunk Black Chrono is an impressive special edition of the company's Steampunk collection. The model is a limited edition of 2012 pieces - a highly symbolic reference, as it marks the year of the one hundredth anniversary of the sinking of RMS Titanic, the famous ocean liner to which this model pays an authentic tribute.

For their "DNA of Famous Legends" concept Romain Jerome have made a remarkable acquisition - actual metal from the wreck of the Titanic, salvaged from depths of 3840 metres below the sea. This watch has fragments of the precious steel incorporated into its construction along with steel sourced directly from the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast where the Titanic was built. Both materials were fused together to create the bezel of the Steampunk Black Chrono watch, giving it incomparable exclusivity which we feel our clients will appreciate.

The steel has been oxidised and stabilised so that it has a heavily textured, patinaed appearance inline with the pelagic character of this model and it provides a textured frame for the industrial aesthetics of this striking watch face.

Bereft of a dial, the indications are fixed directly onto the ruthenium coloured bridge of the movement, whose blackened appearance recalls the sooty engine rooms of 20th Century Transatlantic ocean liners. Closer inspection reveals an abundance of nautical-inspired features with anchor-tipped hands; a unique mobile propeller at 6 o'clock which revolves four times faster than the rate of the oscillating weight to which it is coupled, and chronograph counters which recall a ship's manometers. Contrasting beadblasting and circular-graining finishing techniques bear witness to the craftsmanship of this piece giving it a high-end feel.

Inside the 50mm steel and black PVD-coated steel case beats the RJ001CS Calibre which retains a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. Turning the piece over reveals a Steampunk-style engraving on the caseback.

The Limited Edition have selected the Romain Jerome Steampunk Black Chrono for its dramatic industrial aesthetics which capture the essence of the Steampunk theme and for its ingenious nautical-inspired detailing. We feel that the inclusion of the unique stabilised rusted steel used in its construction, together with the steel acquired from the shipyard which built RMS Titanic provides a unique opportunity to connect intimately with the iconic ocean liner, one which we feel our clients will appreciate as unmissable.
