The Skylab collection was created by Romain Jerome to celebrate an important milestone in space travel and through the use of their DNA concept, as you might well imagine, these models also have the added exclusivity of some very special construction material.

Of course, the clue is in the name, this collection is titled "Skylab" in honour of NASA's first space station, considered by many to be the predecessor of today's International Space Station. These models are also the first Romain Jerome watches to be fully skeletonised, but in place of the delicate fancy work normally associated with this skilful process, the craftsman at Romain Jerome have produced a very high-tech example of the skeletonisation technique, crafted to replicate the futuristic architecture of the Skylab spacecraft.

The result is a striking silhouette of a movement reduced to its bare minimum, sandwiched between front and rear sapphire with all of its working components laid bare. The angular bridges and unexpected linear arrangement which takes direct inspiration from the outline of NASA's Skylab give this model a clean, marginally industrial appearance but there a very unique kind of austere beauty to be found in its design. At 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock respectively, the single barrel and the balance wheel are dominant features with the gear train arranged neatly between the two, with a small seconds counter positioned at 9 o'clock. From every angle the micro-mechanics are exposed offering a compelling spectacle, and they appear to float effortlessly as if to conform to the space heritage of this collection. Even the hands have been openworked so that nothing detracts from the view of this complex five layered skeleton.

Red gold and PVD-coated steel combine to provide a contemporary frame for this Skylab Red model, sized at a very wearable diameter of 44mm. Clever contrasting finishes serve to emphasise the elements, including an eye-pleasing polish for the distinctive "paws" which appear to grip the bezel firmly. Inside is the RJ0004M mechanical movement with a power reserve of 48 hours.
