Romain Jerome Moon Dust Steel Mood Chrono

Through a combination of contemporary designs and historical references, Romain Jerome achieve originality throughout their Air, Earth and Sea collections. Their "DNA of Famous Legends" concept adds something special to the mix, giving each piece exclusivity - a characteristic which is finding favour with watch collectors throughout the world.

The Romain Jerome Moon Dust Steel Mood Chrono is an impressive edition of the brand's unique Moon Dust collection, limited to just 1969 pieces worldwide. It combines contemporary styling with unique aesthetics and in-keeping with Romain Jerome's "DNA of Famous Legends" concept it incorporates some astounding materials within its construction making it a highly exclusive proposition.

Romain Jerome have given this model a beautifully executed grey crater-like dial, dispensing with numerals to allow a full panoramic view of its realistic, rugged texturing. The chronograph counters at 3 and 6 o'clock are stand-out features thanks to their satin-finished rims, but closer inspection unveils the space-inspired small seconds subdial at the 9 o'clock location which features a four-bladed hand styled to recall the solar panels of a satellite. The fascinating visual enticement of this exceptional watch face is not limited to aesthetics, Romain Jerome have incorporated actual Moon dust into its mineral structure for added outer-worldly appeal.

The textured characteristics continue from the dial onto the 46mm case where a suitably high-tech carbon fibre and stainless steel bezel provides the perfect frame for the lunar landscaping on the dial. Concealed within the case material are fragments of the Apollo 11 spacecraft, offering its wearer an intimate connection with one of the most momentous events in the history of space exploration, when mankind took his first steps on the moon.

The design department at Romain Jerome have paid close attention to the minutiae, so that every feature of this Moon Dust Steel Mood Chrono watch reflects the theme of space travel. The signature design codes which characterise Romain Jerome watches have been retained such as the distinctive paws, but for this piece they have been secured to the case using star-shaped screws, even the RJ logo at the 12 o'clock appears to rise from the grey lunar surface. As if to give an astronauts view, 13 markers have been etched onto the inside of the sapphire crystal like technical grid markers. Further testimony to the space DNA of this model is revealed when the piece is turned over to display a caseback engraving of a lunar footprint with the date inscription 20th July 1969.

The Limited Edition have selected this model for the dramatic visual impact of its unique silvery grey dial which replicates the surface of the Moon with surprisingly realistic texturing and also for the iconic materials which Romain Jerome have incorporated into its construction. We think that this piece represents Romain Jerome's expertise in combining contemporary styling with historical references to perfection and as a homage to space travel it offers its wearer an unparalleled connection with the momentous events of 1969.

Even though the Moon Dust Steel Mood Chrono has been designed specifically to commemorate the historic Apollo 11 space flight of 1969, Romain Jerome have added a contemporary twist bringing this piece up to date with current space travel technology. Each piece comes presented on a choice of either a black rubber or a Hornback crocodile leather strap, each partly woven with carbon fibre and fibres from an ISS spacesuit. As a further tribute this edition will be a symbolic issue of 1969 pieces.
