Ever since its foundation in 2010, RJ has been a brand which has continuously pushed at the conventional boundaries of watch design, with its bold creations, sometimes featuring pixelated heroes of the gaming world, other times integrating exotic materials into the very metals used in the manufacture of the cases. As it moves into its second decade, the name has been abbreviated to just the initials RJ, but outwardly at least, little has changed, and whilst brimming with an avant garde and very singular approach to its watchmaking, these are beautifully manufactured watches, with meticulous attention to detail and finishing, and while subtle they most certainly are not, great fun they are.

The Pac-Man Level III is the latest generation of one of the staples of the RJ collection; the millennial cool series whose dials celebrate the genre of old-school computer gaming, and of those, a perennial favourite has been the little yellow hero of the Pac-Man Level III, whose colourful pixelated characters are captured mid-game as Pac-Man gobbles up his cookies while the ghosts wait around every corner of the three dimensional maze, which itself is marked out in electric blue, rising above the black floor of the dial.

The Pac-Man Level III is time only and the skeletonised hands are plated in black gold, and feature arrow tips with Super-LumiNova paint for excellent low light legibility.

Measuring 46mm across, the Pac-Man Level III is larger than most mainstream watches. The case is constructed in Grade 5 titanium with a matte black PVD finish, with black polished bezel and sandblasted steel bumpers, which protrude from the case and also house the mountings for the articulated lugs, which are smooth and rounded on the underside for comfort on the wrist.

Inside beats the self-winding RJ001-A movement, which boasts a power reserve of 42 hours at 28,800 vph. The movement is concealed behind a solid steel caseback with black PVD, and features a stellar network decoration with a numbered black medallion with the Pac-Man icon.

With its oversized proportions and contemporary styling, the RJ Pac-Man Level III is a watch with an outgoing and sporty character. It is presented on a blue rubber strap with folding stainless steel deployant clasp.
