RASHID TSOROEV ARROW SALMON LIMITED EDITION

Following the sell out success of the first editions of his watches, Ingushetia independent watchmaker Rashid Tsoroev returns with the fabulous Arrow Salmon edition, a watch of eye catching detail and meticulous finishing, which features a superb, hand crafted salmon coloured dial, complemented by polished and flame blued hands and indices.

With its minimalist yet strikingly distinctive styling, and features which are simultaneously understated yet powerful against a virginal background, the Arrow is a piece which has established this young watchmaker as a talent with a rare eye for design. What makes this story behind these beautiful watches even more remarkable is that Rashid Tsoroev is entirely self-taught, relying on books, online videos and rudimentary tools to study and refine his skills, far away from any formal watchmaking centres of excellence.

The watch is inspired by the shape of an arrow head, and throughout, little nuanced details such as the tapering faceted lugs and inclined fluted crown subtly capture that influence. Manufactured in stainless steel, the rounded case measures 42mm across, and stands 11.2mm high. The straight-sided waist has a fine brushed finish while the upper surfaces and underside are polished.

Beneath the sapphire crystal, the tone of the salmon dial is warm and rich, and the sandblasted finish gives it a fine frosted, matte appearance, which accentuates the austere elegance of the display. Each dial is carefully produced by hand, as are the applied hour indices, which resemble elongated droplets, with soft, rounded surfaces, and which have been individually polished and flame-coloured to a gorgeous purple-blue hue, which changes as the light reflects off them. The blued hour and minute hands continue the arrow theme with their broad pointed tips. Like the indices, they have been crafted entirely by hand, and finished with their surfaces curved and contoured.

The small seconds are displayed on a subdial at the six o’clock position, which features a silvered silhouette ring, with five-second markings. On the underside, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the hand winding Unitas/ETA 6498 mechanism within. Here the watchmaker has disassembled the classic movement and added his own hand finishing, with Côtes de Genève stripes and blued screws enhancing the overall aesthetic. The balance oscillates at a leisurely 18’000 vib/h, and the single barrel spring delivers a minimum of 52 hours of power reserve.

Presented on a dark blue alligator leather strap with pin buckle, only twenty examples of the fabulous Arrow Salmon edition will be produced. A watch of uncompromising attention to detail and quality from an emerging self-educated independent talent in Rashid Tsoroev, with its predecessor selling out in a matter of hours earlier in 2020, the Salmon edition is sure to repeat that impressive achievement.
