Taking its place within the upper echelon of the independent watchmaking landscape, and heralding a remarkable quantum leap in the advancement of this youthful company, the Sartory Billard SB06-12 Flying Tourbillon Havana watch is a perfect synthesis of design, artisanship and technical sophistication.
Presented in a casing crafted by Voutilainen & Cattin, the watch debuts the first Sartory Billard in-house movement, the hand-wound SBTV01 flying tourbillon calibre, which was developed with the technical experts and watchmakers of the prestigious Comblemine atelier. Immaculately finished throughout to Haute Horlogerie standards, and with the added advantage of bespoke options including Comblemine dials, this exceptional timepiece offers the collector a unique opportunity to acquire an exceptional contemporary masterpiece.
Founded in 2015, Sartory Billard stand apart for offering a significant level of customisation at the time of purchase, giving each owner a meaningful and personal experience, and adding further to the exclusivity of their timepiece. The SBTV01 movement was initially conceived in response to a request by the members of the private watch collector club, CronotempVs. And, while CronotempVs played a pivotal collaborative role in the design and development of the calibre, a number of renowned companies and individuals are associated with the manufacture of both the SB06-12 watch, and also the in-house movement, with craftsmanship at the highest level of contemporary independent watchmaking employed throughout its manufacture.
The cases are by industry experts, Voutilainen & Cattin, and the dials are crafted by highly skilled artisans, including those at Comblemine. Furthermore, the SBTV01 flying tourbillon in-house movement was also developed with the in-put of the technical experts and watchmakers at Comblemine and, with the fine finishing of the bridges and the tourbillon cage achieved at the bench of Philippe Narbel, who is widely recognised as an industry touchstone for Haute Horlogerie finishing, one can be in no doubt of the watch’s prestige.
Adhering to the signature style of Sartory Billard watches, the dial is crisply styled and displays a perfect balance of contemporary and classical styling. For this example, the surface is of an effortlessly stylish shade of rich Havana, with a tremblage central section adding texture, but further options of guilloché, stone and métiers d’art variations are also possible. The numerals, also offered in a choice of font styles, are pad printed onto a sapphire ring giving them an illusory aspect as they ‘float’ above the minutes track, while at the six o’clock the flying tourbillon is magnificent. Adding to the appeal of each piece, the proprietary hour and minutes hands are immediately distinctive, and have the refinement of sandblasted and polished finishes.
Revealed through a sapphire crystal caseback, the in-house Sartory Billard SBTV01 calibre is alive with Haute Horlogerie detailing and uniqueness. Enabling a full appreciation of the fine guilloché finishing of the mainplate, the top bridge is crafted from sapphire, and it is accompanied by a pair of gently arching bridges. Immaculately finished, and displaying black polished screws and polished chatons, the bevelling and inward angles of the bridges, together with the tourbillon cage have been hand finished by Philippe Narbel, and keeping to old-school methods, the assembly, regulation and testing of each SBTV01 calibre will be achieved by a single watchmaker. Beating at 21’600 vib/h (3Hz), the hand wound movement has a generous power reserve of 96 hours.
Consistent with the overall elegant styling of the model, the Sartory Billard SB06-12 Havana Flying Tourbillon watch is presented in a perfectly proportioned rounded case in either grade 5 titanium or stainless steel, and is sized at 41mm across, with a height of only 9.5mm. Beautifully constructed and executed by Voutilanen & Cattin, its rounded form is equipped with neatly curving lugs ensuring an ergonomic fit, and it is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal.
With prices commencing at €88,000 excluding UK/EU VAT, the Sartory Billard SB06-12 Havana comes presented on a hand made leather strap by Scarlett Paris, with the colour and type to be chosen at the time of purchase by the client. Limited in production, only 24 examples will be produced per year.
