S3 Deadbeat Seconds – Power Reserve

An exceptional creation from a brand which steadfastly adheres to the watchmaking traditions which once made England and Great Britain the hub of classical watchmaking, the new S3 Deadbeat Seconds with Power Reserve by English watch company Garrick is a piece which showcases this fiercely independent marque’s technical and aesthetic sophistication.

Expanding on the wonderfully whimsical Deadbeat Seconds complication, which first appeared on Garrick’s S2  Deadbeat, and through which the seconds hand jumps in precise one second increments, rather than sweeping around the dial as is common to pretty much all other mechanical watches, the new S3 version introduces a power reserve indicator, on a subdial with red pointer at the 2 o’clock position.

The openworked dial and pared-back chapter ring reveal the fascinating and complex mechanisms for these functions, as well as the Garrick signature of the generously proportioned Trinity free-sprung balance, which pulses beneath its ornate bridge, and dominates the lower half of the display.

As with all of Garrick’s creations, the options to personalize the watch are extensive, and so from the colour of the frosted dial plate to the style, colour and finish of the hours, minutes and central seconds hands, rarely, if ever, are two pieces which leave their Norfolk atelier identical, meaning each piece is as unique and individual as its owner.

On the underside, a sapphire crystal caseback provides a view of the architecture and finishing of the manual winding DB-G07, which is entirely hand finished and assembled in-house. Beating at a leisurely 18,000vib/h, the movement boasts a power reserve of 45 hours, and as with the dial side, options include gold, silver or black rhodium treatment to order.

Presented in a rounded case of 904L stainless steel, which measures 42mm across and 11mm tall, and featuring a fluted crown, the gleaming polished finishing accentuates the graceful contours and flowing lines, and help define the Garrick S3 Deadbeat Seconds as a watch which is at the same time contemporary, yet perpetuates the brand’s sympathetic approach to a rich horological heritage.
