Boasting unparalleled rarity, and with the distinction of holding a Guinness World Record, the Louis Moinet Cosmopolis Pièce Unique watch perfectly blends celestial fascination with watchmaking mastery. In every possible way, the Louis Moinet Cosmopolis demonstrates an unprecedented opportunity to acquire a one-of-a-kind timepiece that is notable not only for its highly original composition, but also its Haute Horlogerie character. The watch carries a 40.7mm case of polished 18ct rose gold, fitted with a domed sapphire crystal which gives a showcase effect to its dial, upon which ten individual slivers of meteorite are displayed within golden framed apertures, on a background of deep-grey with a brushed finish.
Adding further to the drama, a generous fragment of white-speckled lunar meteorite of extraordinary rarity takes centre stage, while a sample of black chondrite can be glimpsed behind the cage of the flying tourbillon. Wonderfully refined, and proportionally perfect, the open sector of the dial for the flying tourbillon intersects with the gold framed lunar meteorite at the centre, forming a harmonious figure of eight, while from the centre the golden hour and minutes hands are faceted and openworked.
The Louis Moinet Cosmopolis is powered by the manual-winding Manufacture LM135 calibre, which derives an impressive reserve of power of 96 hours from twin barrels, which are engineered to release their energy simultaneously though a ‘volte-face’ arrangement wherein the barrels are place upside-down in series. Beautifully decorated with Côtes de Genève, one can view the calibre through a sapphire section in the reverse of the casing, while a caseback engraving declares the Unique Piece provenance of the watch.
