Limited to only 99 pieces, the Louis Erard Excellence Petite Seconde Malachite edition is distinctively different and utterly stunning. The character of this timepiece is defined by its visually arresting dial, which showcases the varying tones of the silver of malachite from which it is crafted.

Ranging from deep luscious green through to vivid verdant, the horizontal bands of the natural material provide a highly original backdrop for the beautifully arranged indications. From the centre the rhodium-plated hour and minutes hands are of the company’s distinctive fir-tree shape, and they taper towards slender applied hour numerals and markers which seemingly float above the palette effect of the malachite dial surface. In contrast, the small seconds dial at the 6 o’clock location has been rendered in silver-coloured opaline with a concentric snailing motif and it carries diminutive anthracite markers and a petite cross-hairs.

The case of the watch is of stainless steel, sized at 39mm across, with a height of 12.25mm and is topped with a gently domed sapphire crystal. Enhanced with a polished finish, the rounded form of the casing is classical, and with a neatly tucked in crown, curving lugs and a trim bezel, it carries perfect proportions. Inside, and viewable through the sapphire crystal exhibition caseback, the élaboré grade Swiss mechanical Sellita SW261-1 self-winding movement features a semi-skeletonised Louis Erard oscillating weight, and it boasts a power reserve of thirty-eight hours, beating at a brisk 28’800 vib/h.
