Released in honour of the work of the award-winning British photographer, this special edition which features a fully functional exposure calculator, together with a GMT function, comes presented with a signed and numbered four image photo box featuring the artist’s work. An exceptional proposition, the Lensman 2 Exposure Brian Griffin Edition is a call to its wearer to embrace photography in the great outdoors, and without doubt this collector’s edition which is powered by the superb Horage K2 in-house automatic mechanical movement is a future classic in the making.
As any photographer worth their salt knows, the shutter speed, aperture setting and the ISO rating of the film used are the all important trio of readings used in manual photography in order to capture the perfect image, and the settings chosen are largely due to the light conditions at the time. Also known as the Exposure Triangle, the Horage Lensman 2 Brian Griffin Edition brings this function to the wrist with a timepiece that is not only unique beyond compare, but handsome and usable too.
Perfectly arranged and instantly readable, the bidirectional rotating bezel on the case functions as an manual exposure calculator with an ISO range of 25 to 12,800, and an aperture f-stop of f/1.4 to f/22. On an engraved inner ring, the lighting conditions are represented with icons, with the shutter speeds also clearly rendered opposite. By rotating the bezel to align with the current lighting conditions the optimum shutter speed and aperture settings are calculated and can be easily read.
Rendered in silver for this special limited edition release, the dial of the Horage Lensman 2 Exposure Brian Griffin when viewed face-on is evocative of what one might see at the top of an SLR camera, and despite its technical aspect and the array of information displayed, it exhibits clean styling throughout, with the indications rendered in black.
Located on the perimeter of the inner dial, the arabic numerals for the GMT are framed by a minutes and seconds track enhanced with X1 Super-LumiNova at each hour mark, with the GMT indicated via a vivid yellow hand with a lume-coated circular section. From the centre, a white seconds hand is accompanied by the hour and minutes hands, each featuring Super-LumiNova inserts.
An exceptional watch is deserving of an equally impressive casing, and with the Lensman 2 Exposure, Horage have excelled themselves. Designed and crafted in the company’s partner facility, Paoluzzo Ag, and extraordinarily complex in structure, it is essentially an exoskeleton case comprising of an outer Grade 5 titanium case, with an inner case of black anodized aluminium. Engineered to be featherlight, its unconventional form is enhanced with dual finishing techniques of matte and polished, and exhibiting unexpected curves and angles, it rests on the wrist like a circle clasped within a square, measuring 39mm across and with a width of 45.8mm between its shortened lugs.
Beating within, the K2 micro-rotor movement has been entirely re-worked to accommodate the new 24-hour function of the Lensman 2 Exposure Brian Griffin Edition, which enables an adjustment of one-hour increments, independent of the main hands. Viewable through the sapphire caseback which is framed with textured aluminium, the calibre is decorated with a galvanic finish in the signature Horage grid pattern and Côtes de Genève. For this edition, the micro rotor is crafted from platinum and together with the fully exposed balance wheel and silicon escapement these elements add aesthetic pleasure to the arrangement. Beating at 25,200 vib/h the COSC certified movement has a power reserve of 72 hours.
An excellent example that reinvents the concept of the modern-day tool watch, the Horage Lensman 2 Exposure Brian Griffin Limited Edition watch offers its wearer an outstanding opportunity to acquire a signed and numbered photo box by the artist to whom the watch is dedicated. The model comes presented on a rubber strap with quick change function, secured by a deployant buckle. Each individually numbered model in this 100 piece limited edition features a caseback engraving of a quote from Brian Griffin of stating ‘Believe in your light’.
