Inspired by the 35mm camera, the Lensman 1 features numerous aesthetic elements which are instantly familiar to any amateur photographer, and which have been neatly incorporated throughout the design of the watch. Manufactured in Grade 5 titanium, the case measures 41mm across and 10.3mm tall. The satin finished waist of the case is laser etched with the kind of settings found on a 35mm camera's aperture ring, while beneath the polished bezel, the notched surround adapts the appearance of the manual zoom adjustment ring into the design.
Beneath a subtly curved sapphire crystal the all black dial features applied black gold indices with black Super-LumiNova, and their polished surfaces transform from light catching reflection during the day, to a vivid green glow in low light conditions, complementing the diamond-cut hands. Dominating the display is the superb flying tourbillon which rotates in a sixty second cycle beneath a sapphire cyclops loupe above the six o'clock position, which magnifies the fascinating mechanical animation of the regulating device.
With its cage manufactured in Grade 5 titanium and its escapement components, and now its hairspring too, produced entirely in silicon, the Lensman 1's tourbillon is an evolution of its groundbreaking predecessor, weighing only 0.29 grammes and resting on ceramic bearings. These lightweight and low maintenance materials make the tiny regulating device among the most efficient and technically advanced in the industry, and contribute to the K-TOU movement's highly impressive 120 hours of power reserve, derived from its single barrel, while boasting C.O.S.C. chronometer standard accuracy, as well as prolonged intervals between the need for servicing.
On the underside, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the contemporary architecture of the Horage K-TOU calibre, which beats at 25,200 vib/h (3.5Hz). Apart from the silicon components, which are sourced nearby in Germany, the movement is a feat of in-house innovation and is entirely designed, developed and manufactured in Switzerland by Horage.
Priced at just 8,990 CHF, the Horage Lensman 1 represents extraordinary value for money for a fully Swiss made, in-house manufactured tourbillon watch. Its production is capped at 500 units, with orders commencing in November 2022.
