Winner of the Innovation Prize Category at the prestigious GPHG awards 2023 edition, the Hautlence Sphere Series 1 watch features an exceptional openworked arrangement showcasing a complex spherical jumping hour indication and retrograde minutes, on a multilayered and frosted dial. Presented in a limited edition of only 28 pieces, this exclusive model comes presented in the company’s iconic TV-shaped case format.

Founded in 2004 and acclaimed for their unconventional time indications and masterful micro-mechanics, Hautlence are now a sister company of H. Moser & Cie. Having marked their renaissance in 2022, the Sphere Series 1 evolves the Hautlence portfolio, and it continues the story of this cutting edge watchmaking atelier as it breaks new ground within the watchmaking landscape.

The case is manufactured from stainless steel and measures 50.8mm across and 43mm end to end, and is of the TV-screen style, so-named as it recalls the profile of retro television screens. Resting 11.9mm high on the wrist, a full integration of the strap ensures an ergonomic wear, and furthermore with a water resistance of 100m, the casing conforms to the sports characteristics of the piece.

The visual and technical highlight of the Sphere Series 1 is its spherical hour display which spins as if randomly on multiple axes, to reveal the current hour in an endlessly fascinating spectacle. Highly innovative, its instant burst of kinetic energy is enabled via four conical gears, which rotate the Grade 5 titanium orb, which is constructed in two halves, and rendered with PVD in a brilliant blue tone. The mesmerising jumping hour indication is joined by a retrograde minutes, which travels along a sapphire minutes track. It becomes part of the mechanical performance when, on the last stroke of the fifty-ninth minute, the tension accumulated over the preceding hour is released and the entire mechanism springs into life, instantly flicking its blue PVD coated minutes pointer back to begin again.

Beating at a frequency of 21’600 vib/h (3Hz), and with a reserve of power of 72 hours, the A80 in-house manual wind movement comprises of 218 components. While one can appreciate glimpses of the calibre on the dial side, through the sapphire crystal caseback, the reverse of the sphere and the modern arrangement and finishing of the calibre are fully disclosed.

Released in a limited series of 28 pieces, the Hautlence Sphere Series 1 watch comes presented on a blue rubber strap secured with a stainless steel buckle.
