A luxury contemporary sports watch featuring contrasting elements of carbon composite and 18ct red gold, the Angelus Gold & Carbon Flying Tourbillon watch exhibits superlative craftsmanship throughout its execution and arrangement.
Presented in a complex casing, the Gold & Carbon Flying Tourbillon by Angelus displays astounding depth on its dial side, with a three-dimensional arrangement of skeletonised bridges complemented by a flying tourbillon. This 18 piece limited edition is a superb addition to the portfolio of Angelus who have a significant history dating back to 1891 and a legacy rich with innovative mechanisms and complications, not least their legendary Chronodato models from the 1940s. Revived by Swiss movement manufacturer La Joux-Perret in 2015, the company now enjoys the technical advantage of this acclaimed movement Manufacturer.
The Angelus Gold & Carbon Flying Tourbillon watch carries a 42.5mm casing of 18ct red gold on a carbon composite middle case. With hollowed out elements on the sides, and a pronounced angular crown guard it has a contemporary profiling, which is enhanced by the addition of a notched bezel. Beautifully finished with vertical brushing, and with chamfered and polished edges, it is topped by a box-style sapphire crystal which is cut vertically at the bezel to give an expansive, flattened view of the dial side, where the mechanisms are revealed against a carbon fibre mainplate.
Meticulously skeletonised, the bridges rise up displaying their chamfered edges, with each element secured by a signature Angelus screw head. The visual highlight of the arrangement, the tourbillon at the six o’clock position, is fixed from below so that it appears elevated providing a superb technical illusion. Notably, the balance oscillating within it has a pared-back construction, with a non-circular flywheel ensuring lightweight efficiency, so that it enhances the timekeeping of the watch. Finally, and adding to the overall sense of depth of the Angelus Gold & Carbon Flying Tourbillon, the matte black PVD flange slopes inwards at a dramatic angle, with each of its applied white gold hour markers conforming to its form.
Beating within the Gold & Carbon Flying Tourbillon by Angelus, the skeletonised manual wind in-house Manufacture A-250 calibre by La Joux-Perret is also appreciable through the sapphire caseback, where the reverse of its carbon fibre mainplate lends a wholly contemporary aesthetic to the movement. Beautifully finished throughout, and beating at a frequency of 21’600 vib/h, it is equipped with a power reserve of 90 hours.
Limited to only 18 pieces, the Angelus Gold & Carbon Flying Tourbillon secures to the wrist with a black rubber ‘ballistic’ strap with an 18ct red gold and titanium folding clasp.
