An exciting evolution to his portfolio, and presented in a limited series of only 20 pieces, the watch showcases a handmade in-house 3D moon phase complication inspired by its maker’s passion for astronomy.
The Mondphase 1 carries a 41mm casing of polished stainless steel. Despite the challenges posed by the inclusion of moonphase larger than the thickness of the movement, the case rises to a height of only 10.5mm giving it elegant proportions. Adhering to the minimalism of previous Pikullik watches, the brass dial plate has been finished with a frosted black rhodium plating complemented by a black polished chapter ring and handcrafted hands which have a dual polished and frosted aesthetic. Located midway between 10 and 11 o’clock, the spherical moon is a miniature work of art which is set deep within an opening, framed by flawless hand bevelling. Enhanced by a subtle texture its dark and light side are rendered using two tones of rhodium finish on a frosted background, while just beneath, the hand made and gold-plated gearing for the complication are exposed, adding a resplendent feature to an otherwise exquisitely moody façade.
Revealed through the sapphire caseback, the rose gold plated balance cock with its deep hand engraving immediately stands out against the black rhodium plated components. Using as his base a ETA/Unitas 6498/6497, Felipe has disassembled and reworked the movement, transforming it with hand sawn and skeletonised bridges and hand beveled and polished edges, elevating the calibre into a thing of beauty demanding of loupe-worthy admiration. Beating at 18’800 vph, the movement has a power reserve of 50 hours when fully hand wound.
Released in a limited series of only 20 pieces, the Mondphase 1 by Felipe Pikullik comes presented on a handmade leather strap secured with a stainless steel pin buckle.
