From one of the brightest young talents to emerge on the independent watchmaking landscape in the 2020s, the new FP Klassik by Berlin watchmaker Felipe Pikullik combines the hand finished detailing and meticulous attention to detail which have been hallmarks of his previous creations.
With its perfectly proportioned dial, and rounded case featuring the signature Felipe Pikullik soldered lugs, which add a hint of art deco influence, the FP Klassik is a superb piece of understated sophistication, and carries over the elegant styling which defines the Felipe Pikullik portfolio. Created to be the entry point to this exciting young brand, this is the first piece which is not part of a limited edition, although being a small atelier, production will still be in relatively low numbers.
The FP Klassik is offered in a stainless steel case which measures 41mm across and 10.5mm tall. Its surfaces are polished and it features a slender bezel, sapphire crystals front and back, and a fluted crown in which the FP motif is inlaid in ceramic.
Beneath a subtly domed sapphire crystal, the dial has a frosted surface, and is available in a choice of dark green, dark blue or black options. The indices are applied individually onto the grainy texture and, like the minute markers between them, have been hand polished, as have the black rhodium plated lancet-style hour and minute hands. The decentralized small seconds are displayed in a recessed subdial at the six o’clock position, which has white printed markings on a smooth surface.
Visible through the sapphire caseback, the FP Klassik is powered by the ZBM-1 manual winding movement, which operates at 21,600 vib/h (3Hz) and has a power reserve of circa 50 hours. Starting life as an ETA 6497-2 pocket watch caliber, it has has been extensively modified, with its bridges skeletonised to reveal the gold plated gear wheels within, as well as the ornately hand engraved balance cock which also has rose gold plating. The frosted bridges and main plate beneath are treated to a coating of black rhodium plating which make the gold elements stand out in a very effective contrast.
A particularly handsome piece of contemporary independent watchmaking, the FP Klassik combines modern and minimalist aesthetics with traditional hand finishing, and is presented on a handmade leather strap with stainless steel pin buckle.
