Characterised by meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship, the Fears Brunswick 40 Opaline Silver Dial watch is a quintessentially British watch, featuring a dial of Opaline Silver which gives it a supremely pure aesthetic. Crafted in small batch series, with each piece impeccably hand built in Britain, the watch exhibits a satisfying level of finishing, with the company’s rich heritage referenced throughout the model.
One of Britain’s oldest watch companies, Fears has a significant history which dates back to 1846, when the founder Edwin Fears first established the business in Bristol, England. Now in the safe hands of the founder’s great-great-great-grandson, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, who reawakened the family business from a lengthy slumber, Fears are once again firmly rooted within the landscape of British watchmaking.
The Brunswick 40 Opaline Silver Dial watch is inspired by a gentlemen’s cushion case watch first made by Fears in 1924. Crafted from stainless steel, and sized at 40mm across, the curved profile of the casing is accentuated by a high polish finish, with hand-graining on the top of the case corners and it is fitted with an onion-shaped crown. Worn on a beautifully constructed 5-link bracelet featuring polished and brushed links, the Brunswick 40 Silver Dial evokes a contemporary sporty elegance, leaving it perfect for daily wear.
The watch dial carries a silvery-white surface, rendered with a coating of 99.9% pure silver. Crafted over two levels, the central lower section is finished with micro-guilloché employed by CNC, with the outer section finished with a genuine Opaline finish achieved through a traditional straw-polishing technique. The numerals display the company’s custom “Edwin” typeface and are milled from brass before being diamond polished and coated in black gold alloy. The distinctive Fears-shaped hour and minutes hands, also black gold coated, have a bevel cut on their centre and a high polish decoration. In contrast, the central seconds hand which is executed in red complements the subtle red triangle marker at the 12 o’clock.
The watch is powered by a top-grade Swiss mechanical automatic calibre, which has been serviced and finished in Britain, and for this model the calibre has also been fitted with a decorated rotor, and has been modified to remove the date mechanism thus allowing for precise time setting.
The Fears Brunswick 40 Opaline Silver Dial watch comes presented in a bespoke wooden box crafted from English Ash, which is stained in dark blue and lined with genuine suede.
