Introducing an exquisite mother of pearl dial to the collection, the Fears Brunswick Aurora watch is beautifully executed throughout in a quintessentially British style. Crafted to capture the nuances of the aurora borealis, this superb timepiece is presented in a cushion-shaped stainless steel casing, upon a 5-link stainless steel bracelet and is powered by a customised Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic mechanical movement.
One of Britain’s oldest watch companies, Fears has a significant history which dates back to 1846, when the founder Edwin Fears first established the business in Bristol, England. Now in the safe hands of the founder’s great-great-great-grandson, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, who reawakened the family business from a lengthy slumber, Fears are once again firmly rooted within the landscape of British watchmaking. Notably, the Fears Brunswick Aurora is the first model to be fitted with a mother of pearl dial in the history of the company.
Influenced by the company’s rich heritage, the case of the Brunswick Aurora takes inspiration from a gentlemen’s cushion cased watch from the 1920s. Crafted from stainless steel, and sized at 40mm across, the curved profile of the casing is accentuated by a high polish finish, with hand-graining on the top of the case corners and it is fitted with a bespoke, screw down crown. The model is worn on a beautifully constructed 5-link bracelet, featuring polished and brushed links, secured with a butterfly clasp.
Evoking depth and extraordinary elegance, the dial of the Fears Brunswick 40 Aurora Steel is created using two sections of mother of pearl, with a duality of finishes and heights. Hand tinted to bring out the iridescence of the natural material, and brimming with blue-toned vibrancy, the shimmering surface immediately elevates the character of the model.
The numerals display the company’s custom “Edwin” typeface and are milled and diamond polished before they are rhodium-plated and hand applied. The distinctive Fears-shaped hour and minutes hands, also rhodium-plated, have a bevel cut on their centre and a high diamond polish decoration. These are joined by a central seconds hand which stretches out toward a traditional railtrack scale at the dial’s perimeter.
The watch is powered by a top-grade Swiss mechanical automatic calibre, which has been serviced and finished in Britain, and for this model the calibre has also been fitted with a custom decorated rotor, and has been modified to remove the date mechanism thus allowing for precise time setting.
The Fears Brunswick Aurora 40 watch comes presented on the company’s superb stainless steel bracelet, and with an improved water resistance over previous models, this stunning model is perfectly suited to daily wear.
