An immaculately styled timepiece which is brimming with traditional features, the Fears Brunswick 38 Champagne watch has an ebullient dial tone alive with textured nuances. Hand built in Britain in small batch series, this superb model references the rich heritage of this distinguished independent watchmaking company.

One of Britain’s oldest watch companies, Fears has a significant history which dates back to 1846, when the founder Edwin Fears first established the business in Bristol, England. Now in the safe hands of the founders great-great-great-grandson, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, who reawakened the family business from a lengthy slumber, Fears are once again firmly rooted within the landscape of British watchmaking.

Inspired by a gentlemen’s cushion case watch first made by Fears in 1924, the Brunswick 38 Champagne watch carries a case crafted from stainless steel. Perfectly proportioned at 38mm across, the curved profile of the casing is accentuated by contrasting high polished and brushed finishing. Manually wound via a satisfyingly rounded onion-style crown, the watch is worn on a handmade grey Barenia leather strap, secured with a steel pin buckle.

The dial surface of the watch has been rendered from layers of 18ct yellow gold, with a glass bead blasted finish, which gives it a shimmering frosted aesthetic. The diamond polished hand applied numerals are in the brand’s custom “Edwin” typeface, and with a coating of black gold alloy, they transform from silvery tones to dark brown-black depending on the light conditions. At six o’clock, the recessed subdial for the seconds has a concentric circular decoration. Notably, Fears are one of only a few British watch brands to craft their hands in-house and the examples featured on this Brunswick timepiece exhibit excellent detailing, having been meticulously skeletonised before undergoing thermal blueing.

The watch is powered by a top-grade Swiss mechanical manual winding calibre, which has been serviced and finished in Britain, with Côtes de Genève striping and Rhodium plating.

The Fears Brunswick 38 Champagne watch comes presented in a bespoke wooden box crafted from English Ash, which is stained in dark blue and lined with genuine suede.
