Wonderfully contemporary, yet crafted using old-school watchmaking methods, the Czapek Quai des Bergues No.17 Double Soleil Deep Blue 40.5mm watch is a perfectly balanced fit within this acclaimed and highly desirable wristwatch series. Featuring an eye-catching métiers d’art dial of intricate guilloché by Metalem, in a tone of deepest blue, this new model is presented in a stainless steel casing and is powered by the superb proprietary SHX1 manual wind calibre.

The Czapek Quai Des Bergues No.17 Double Soleil Deep Blue introduces a new case size of 40.5mm to the collection. Manufactured from stainless steel, the profile of the casing features some meticulous refinement to the original Quai des Bergues case in order to facilitate the new diameter. Subtle revisions to the lugs and to the recesses on the case middle ensure that nothing of the presence of the case is lost, and with a height of only 11.9mm, the watch is a quintessential example, which is perfect for everyday wear.

Instantly immersive, the guilloché work on the dial is outstanding, and features a new proprietary guilloché pattern. Endlessly fascinating, the artisan has rendered the pattern using deeper and straighter cuts to capture the essence of the prism-like refraction of rays of sunlight seen when the parhelion phenomena occurs, hence its title of ‘Double Soleil”.

Displaying excellent equipoise, two subdials intersect the guilloché decoration, further enhancing the emanating waves of its pattern. The small constant seconds are displayed in the recessed subdial at the seven, while adjacent at five, another Czapek novelty is the joint seven day power reserve and weekday indicator, originally devised as a convenient reminder of the weekly ritual in its time of winding one’s timepiece every Sunday evening. Notable for its depth and beauty, the blue tone chosen for this model perfectly showcases the rhodium-plated arrow-tipped hour and minutes hands, and the elegant, elongated indices.

Inside the watch, the superb SXH1 proprietary calibre affirms the commitment of Czapek to movement development and high-end finishing. Openworked bridges on the gear train lend it an airy character, while meticulous sandblasting, bevelling, hand-chamfering, and circular and snailed finishing techniques add character and prestige. Beating at 21’600 vib/h the movement has a 7 day reserve of power when fully hand wound.

An exceptional timepiece by Czapek, a prestigious and historically significant watchmaking name that was reborn in 2015, the Quai des Bergues No.17 Double Soleil Deep Blue watch is presented on an alligator strap secured with a stainless steel pin buckle.
