Marking a debut collection for this prestigious watchmaking marque, the Belvedere Danube by Carl Suchy combines a sporting aesthetic with elegant styling cues. Designed by Milos Ristin and created with the technical input of the acclaimed master watchmaker Marc Jenni, the Belvedere Danube is inspired by the architecture and ambience of the iconic Viennese Belvedere Palace. Beautifully executed throughout, the immaculate finishing and design language of the piece draws from the legacy of this significant historical watchmaking name and it exhibits the quintessential charm which one can find only in Vienna. Featuring a unique date display window that transforms the dial aspect of the watch every 24 hours, the Belvedere Danube has a limited production of only 100 pieces in 2023.
The case of Carl Suchy’s Belvedere Danube is of stainless steel, with a diameter of 40.8mm and a height of 12.2mm and is finished with both pearl-blasted and high-polished techniques. Built to withstand a water resistance of 100 metres, it is fitted with an integrated rubber strap ensuring an ergonomic fit. Perfectly suited to sporting activities yet with a sleek profiling, the Belvedere Danube by Carl Suchy is highly functional yet refined.
The lacquered dial has a concave flange featuring rhodium-plated indices which are accompanied by skeletonised dauphine hour and minute hands and a graceful, slender seconds hand, with each element enhanced with Super-LumiNova to enable readability even when the light conditions are poor. The central section has been finished with asymmetrical guilloché work and it is engineered to turn once every 24 hours, so the date window changes its location each Danube. This quirky yet sophisticated little addition gives the dial of the Belvedere Danube a unique aspect and its inclusion is very much in line with the detailing which makes Carl Suchy timepieces special.
On the underside of the watch, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the Carl Suchy CSS201 movement, derived from a modified Dubois Dépraz DD90000. Edged with a resplendent gold-plated and decorated movement ring, and fitted with a gold-plated rotor engraved with a miniature artwork of the Belvedere Palace, the calibre features impeccable decoration and is visually stunning in its arrangement. Running at 28’800 vib/h, it delivers a power reserve of 42 hours.
An excellent example of a contemporary sports timepiece which is both handsome and elegant, the Carl Suchy Belvedere Danube is secured to the wrist by a white rubber strap featuring an engraving of the Belvedere Garden on its inner side. Only 100 examples will be produced in this first edition 2023 series.
