A beautifully arranged and presented 8 piece limited edition timepiece, the Perpetual Moon “Year of the Rabbit” by Arnold and Son combines hand craftsmanship with masterful Haute Horlogerie. Crafted in honour of the Chinese astrological calendar year of the Water Rabbit, the watch features a métiers d’art aventurine dial which showcases the company’s exceptionally accurate moon phase complication.

The casing of the watch is of 18ct red gold, with a polished finish. Sized at 41.5mm diameter and resting just under 12mm high, it exhibits a rounded form, with a trim bezel. The dial of the watch has two equally impressive visual highlights having both a hand-sculpted 18 carat rose gold 3D rabbit motif, and also Arnold and Son’s signature generous moon phase display which is rendered in mother-of-pearl.  Displayed on a dial surface of black aventurine, the detailing of the artwork is superb with hand-engraving and burnishing employed to bring the little creature to life, while the landscape is enhanced with gold powder hand-painting. Enabling the artwork to dominate, the time indications are reduced to a minimum, and the hours and minutes are indicated via faceted hands and diminutive applied hour markers at the dial edge. On the upper sector, the generous moon phase disc is a breathtaking feature. Crafted from mother-of-pearl it displays its relief painted elements by day in a shimmering spectacle however, when darkness falls, it becomes ethereal as together with selected elements of the landscape, it becomes illuminated bringing the entire panorama to life.

Inside the golden watch case, the Manufacture A&S1512 manual winding movement beats at a frequency of 3Hz (21’600 vib/h) and it derives a minimum of 90 hours of power reserve from its two barrels. Finished to Haute Horlogerie standards, it features Côtes de Genève decoration, blued screws, swirled surfacing upon the barrels and ratchet, and hand chamfered edges with every detail appreciable through the caseback sapphire crystal. Notably the moon phase display of this movement will remain accurate for 122 years before deviating from the lunar cycle for one day and, in addition to the generous moon display aperture on the dial, a second, secret dial on the movement side displays the eight stages of the moon phase.

An astonishing artisanal timepiece crafted to stir the aesthetic senses, the Arnold and Son Perpetual Moon “Year of the Rabbit” watch comes presented on a glistening black alligator strap backed with red alligator leather, with platinum thread stitching and it is secured to the wrist with an 18ct red gold pin buckle. The edition is a limited release of 8 pieces.
