Released in a limited series of only 25 pieces, the Angelus Chronodate Titanium Blue watch is outstanding in its construction and arrangement. A contemporary sports watch styled with finesse, this exceptional limited edition model features a textured dial in a striking blue tone, complemented by a titanium and carbon composite casing. Angelus, who were revived by Swiss movement manufacturer La Joux-Perret in 2015 have a significant history dating back to 1891 and the company have a legacy rich with innovative mechanisms and complications, not least their legendary Chronodato models from the 1940s. This addition to the Chronodate series enjoys the advantage of a precision in-house Manufacture automatic movement with column-wheel and horizontal clutch chronograph arrangement and is presented on a blue rubber strap.
Rendered in a contemporary blue tone and enhanced with nuances of gold, black and red, the centre of the Angelus Chronodate Titanium Blue’s dial has a beautiful frosted finish. Designed to be highly legible the watch features well-proportioned in-set counters for the small seconds and the 30-minute timer. Giving a sense of depth, the hour numerals are applied, and together with the hour and minute hands these elements have been enhanced with Super-LumiNova which emits a blue glow. From the centre, the red-tipped chronograph hand is joined by a pointer date hand, which stretches out with a red arrow-tip to its display at the perimeter.
Measuring 42.5mm across, the casing on the Angelus Chronodate Titanium Blue is beautifully executed and highly complex. The 12-notched bezel, crown and case middle are of lightweight yet highly durable titanium. Introducing cutting-edge materials to the mix, the movement is cradled within a carbon fibre composite inner casing with the pushers, also in carbon fibre connecting directly to it. Lending a further technical aspect, the bezel ring is also rendered from carbon fibre. Alternating angles and curves on the profile of the case give the Chronodate Titanium Blue by Angelus a contemporary sports feel and with openworked lugs which are styled to embrace the blue rubber strap, it wears at a comfortable wrist height of 14.25mm.
Beating within the Angelus Chronodate Titanium Blue, the automatic in-house Manufacture A-500 movement by La Joux-Perret incorporates a column wheel and horizontal coupling clutch mechanism, the defining feature of a high-end chronograph complication. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the calibre has a contemporary finish, with NAC-treated and micro-blasted bridges and an 18ct red gold rotor, decorated with the company’s signature ‘A’ motif. Equipped with a power reserve of 60 hours, it has a frequency of 28’800 vib/h.
