Exotic, exuberant and extraordinary, the astonishing Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Super Sport is a celebration of the unique Bugatti legend, and an exploration into the realms of possibilities of mechanical Haute Horlogerie and watch design. Like the cars which bear the name, it is futuristic while still infused with strong classical overtones, with a case which swoops around the wrist in a gold and sapphire teardrop shape, exposing a breathtaking offset movement and presenting the time in an ergonomic lateral display.
Ever since man sat behind the steering wheel of a mechanically propelled vehicle, and throughout the history of the automobile, the car and the watch have had an inextricable relationship which endures to this day, and sharing the identical principles of uncompromising luxury and excellence in their approach to manufacturing their creations, the maker of the world’s most exotic supercars and the independent Swiss watch company have a lot in common.
Measuring 50mm from lug to lug and some 23mm in height with flowing sculptured contours the Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Super Sport carries an immense and unconcealable presence on the wrist. Still, it’s just over 36mm across, and its curved underside hugs the wrist so it’s easy to wear and comfortable too. Tapering from its narrowest point to the bulge of its rounded front where a lateral dial displays the hours and minutes, the 18Kt rose gold case features six sapphire glass panels through which the remarkable bespoke movement can fully be appreciated in 360°.
With its architecture offset at an angle, its plates and components are layered and tilted, and through the uppermost sapphire window the plate, with Côtes de Genève decoration, follows the curved lines of the case with the balance and power reserve indicator are on show. Up front, the dashboard-like time display is designed to effortlessly align with the driver’s eye while his hand is on the wheel, and while the dial is small and still legible, the entire arrangement of micro engineering is fabulous in its complexity. Two barrels in series provide autonomous drive for ten days as it beats at 21’600vph.
An exceptional example of contemporary Haute Horlogerie in every aspect of its manufacture, assembly, and finishing, the Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Super Sport is a study in watchmaking mastery and design innovation. It is presented on a black alligator leather strap by Hermès with folding deployant clasp.
