The Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Marina Militare Acciaio is a beautiful and respectful tribute to one of the company’s early wristwatches, which were supplied by commission to the Italian Navy in the 1940s.
A fitting tribute and also a modern-day milestone too, the Radiomir 1940 3 Days Marina Militare Acciaio houses Panerai’s proprietary manufacture movement, created in-house at the new Neuchâtel facility.
Its squared-off cushion case with its sturdy lugs is manufactured in 316L stainless steel, its polished finish highlighting the clean and distinctive lines of the iconic case design.
Beneath the gently domed plexiglas crystal the dial is matte black with the Panerai signature ‘sandwich’ construction, and features arabic numerals and dash hour markers, which appear beige in daylight and transforming to a vivid green lume in darkness. Gold pencil hands with luminous strips are the only adornments and the effect is one of space, legibility and perfect balance.
The transparent exhibition caseback reveals the new manufacture P.3000 hand winding movement and its balance wheel and inscribed brushed steel plates. Two barrels discharging in series deliver energy over 72 hours.
It is presented on a handmade Ponte Vecchio fine calfskin strap with white stitching and a stainless steel tang buckle.
Released in a production of only 1,000 pieces, the Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Marina Militare Accacio is one of the most sought-after editions; its rarity and historical relevance to the company increasing its interest among many collectors.
