Mühle ProMare Datum

With renowned German engineering quality and no frills functionality, the new ProMare Datum from Mühle is a very cool men’s watch for those with an appetite for the active outdoor life, where legibility, reliability and individuality are key requisites. Sporty and practical it is a hard wearing companion with striking good looks, and designed to ensure maximum comfort while being put through the rigours of pursuits that get the adrenaline flowing.

Taking its name from the Latin for ‘for the sea’ the ProMare embodies a design language that Mühle have built a decades-long reputation for, as manufacturers of no nonsense high grade instrument watches, and as suppliers to naval, marine and special operations forces, and many other specialist professional services.

Highly legible - and highly visible, thanks to its vivid orange elements - the ProMare Datum is encased in a stainless steel case with brushed and polished surfaces. With protecting shoulders which rise either side of the screw in crown, and being generally devoid of angular edging, the 44mm case has a smooth and rounded profile and considerable presence on the wrist.

Beneath the gently domed sapphire crystal the black dial is all about legibility, and applied steel hour markers and hands are rhodium plated to accentuate the generous coating of Super LumiNova which glows vividly in low light conditions. The orange tip of the seconds hand and the crisp clarity of the minutes track ensure precise at a glance referencing, as does the white on black date in the window at the 3 o’clock position. A thin rim of orange around the edge of the dial complements the detailing elsewhere.

To the rear a sapphire exhibition window reveals the ever faithful SW 400-1 automatic self winding movement. Taking it as its base caliber, Mühle have disassembled it to enhance the surfaces with perlage and ribbed finishing, while modifying it on the rebuild with three-quarter plate, rotor and woodpecker neck regulation, all of which are manufactured in-house.
