Initially drawn towards watchmaking through a childhood passion for astronomy, Marco Guarino now unleashes his creativity by creating ingenious astronomical complications. Recently elected as a candidate for the prestigious AHCI, the maker has co-founded the Marc & Darnò atelier which has a growing portfolio of exceptional timepieces characterised by sophisticated horological mechanisms and stunning aesthetics. A piece that features both a Lunar Day indication together with a precise moonphase phase, the Marc & Darnò Lunar Day watch is a rare find for the discerning collector.
A full disclosure of the micro-components on the openworked dial side of the model enables a full appreciation of the complex character of the piece. On the upper, a beautifully rendered moonphase displays the current moon phase via a circular aperture as it completes its revolution. Engineered to represent a delay of 50 minutes each day, it gives an accurate visual demonstration of each moon rise. Just between the 9 and 10 o’clock position, a second little moon disc enables the wearer to read the actual time the moon will pass over the observation meridian via a red marker against the 24 hour and 50 minutes scale at its perimeter. Extraordinarily accurate, the moonphase will deviate by only one day of error every 122 years.
Marco Guarino chose to use a base ETA 2824-2 calibre for the model due to its efficiency, durability and also its ability to function with precision with the addition of complications. Significantly re-worked to include his lunar day and moonphase complication, the calibre has undergone a complete redesign, and have been hand-finished in the atelier. Notably, a robust power reserve of 38 hours is retained despite the complex mechanical arrangement, and the calibre operates at a frequency of 28’800 vib/h. The piece is housed in a rounded 39mm case with a trim bezel which enables a full appreciation of the unique dial side arrangement.
A technically sophisticated piece from an exciting new independent watchmaking atelier, the Marc & Darnò Lunar Day watch is available with case material options of stainless steel, white or yellow gold.
