Louis Moinet Black Moon

In every respect, the Black Moon watch is a magnificent addition to the Louis Moinet portfolio. Uniquely, the model has a visually stunning display of both the full moon and the new moon upon a domed disc at the centre of the dial. Textured and white/grey in tone, the new moon is rendered from Gadamis 005 which is considered to be the most beautiful of all lunar meteorites ever discovered, while the full moon indication is crafted from Dhofar 457, whose intense black surface is enhanced by the addition of a vivid red frame.

Adding impact to the dial, the central ring and the flange that holds the indices offers the illusion of hovering above a background of shimmering adventurine glass, with the indice at the 3 o’clock rimmed in red to function as an indicator for the current moon phase. The hour and minutes hands are skeletonised and faceted, while at the 9 o’clock position, the arc-shaped seconds indication has a compass-like hand with a long and short end, with each end taking its turn to count 30 seconds as the hand rotates. A partially openworked section in the dial showcases the balance wheel and the escapement, and even after dark, this is an endlessly fascinating and dramatic dial, as the lume-filled tips of the hour and minutes hands and the centre of each indice emit an etheral glow.

Sized at 40.7mm, the case of the watch is manufactured from Grade 5 titanium with a polished and satin-finish. A highly technical construction, it is topped with a pronounced domed sapphire crystal, and its sleek profile and openworked lugs give it a contemporary wrist presence.

Beating within, the Calibre LM110 Manufacture movement beats at 28’800 vib/h. Created in collaboration with the acclaimed movement Manufacture Concepto, its gear train includes a wheel with 135 tiny teeth that ensure a moonphase so precise that it will only deviate by just one day in 122 years. Beautifully rendered with a contemporary Haute Horlogerie aesthetic, it features a redesigned rotor that is openworked to enable a full appreciation of the meticulous finishing devoted to every nuance of the components.

The Louis Moinet Black Moon watch will be strictly limited to only 60 pieces. The model wears on a black leather strap secured with a folding clasp.
