A watch of distinguished charm, elegance and sophistication, the Excellence Grand Feu by independent company Louis Erard is a superb piece which features one of watchmaking’s most classical signatures; a hand crafted dial of creamy Grand Feu enamel.
A limited edition of only 99 examples, the Excellence Grand Feu continues this highly popular series of collaborations between the Jura Valley based manufacturer and the artisans, designers and watchmakers whose work has contributed to contemporary independent watchmaking.
The round case of the Excellence is manufactured in stainless steel, measures 42mm across and 12mm tall and has a water resistance rating of 50m. It is presented on a soft nubuck leather strap and with trim lugs and polished surfaces and a slender curving bezel, it is a watch with a refined presence on the wrist.
Beneath the gentle convex dome of sapphire glass, the cream coloured dial is produced by hand in the traditional oven fired Grand Feu enamel by specialist Donzé Cardrans. The glassy lustre of the surface is austere yet beautiful, and it accentuates the blue markings which are applied by enamel transfer. Fine tapering indices alternate with elongated roman numerals, and the dial is encircled with a minutes track chapter ring. The time is displayed via hours, minutes and small seconds, which are defined by a minimal ring of indices, while the Louis Erard signature Fir Tree hands are blued perfectly complement the dial.
Inside, and visible though the sapphire crystal exhibition caseback a modified Swiss Sellita SW261 self winding movement features a semi skeletonised Louis Erard oscillating weight, and boasts a power reserve of thirty-eight hours, beating at a brisk 28’800 vib/h.
