Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Rose Gold

Established in 2002 by friends Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, the seriously cool watches manufactured by their independent watch company Linde Werdelin have been stirring up a buzz ever since.

In what seems like only a few short years, they have not only succeeded in maintaining a steadily growing fan base, Linde Werdelin have firmly established themselves as pioneers of groundbreaking non-conformist design, which has become their signature across a collection of high quality sports watches.

The Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Rose Gold is an ultra cool special edition of the iconic Oktopus collection. Limited to only 88 pieces worldwide, it marries this unique futuristic design with the lustre of precious metal; its sculpted form fusing angles and layers and accentuated with a prominent 18Kt rose gold bezel, contrasting against the purposeful bare metal body and plunging black laser cut dial.

Where most manufacturers use a single-piece dial, the Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Rose Gold dial is a construction of two individual laser cut skeletonised discs. The uppermost element with gold numerals and luminous indices is almost fully stripped back to the essentials, with the subtle black octopus motif at its centre.

Immediately underneath, the shimmer of the Côtes de Genéve decoration on the brushed black titanium lower disc creates the illusion of rippled water, and two circular laser cut grilles at the 2 and the 10 reveal the skeletonised rose gold date wheels which convene just above the centre point of the dial to display the date where the numerals align.

Beneath the 2.5mm thick sapphire crystal, its skeletonized black dial assembly provides a deep and absorbing view of the modified Dubois Dépraz automatic self winding movement below.

The gold numerals stand out clearly against the black metallic background, and the squared-off gold hands and the hour indices which encircle the perimeter of the dial are coated with Linde Werdelin’s bespoke cool grey lume, ensuring excellent legibility in low light conditions, as with a depth rating of 300m we are reminded that this is a serious professional sports watch.

The angular titanium case is finished with symmetric brushed graining, contrasting with circular brush effects on the satin rose gold bezel, which also houses the crown and mounts for the Linde Werdelin Reef Instrument, which can be fixed to the Oktopus for use under water. Tiny black gaskets seat the hex socket fixing screws around the bezel. Turned over, the screw-in caseback is adorned with a great octopus engraving.

The Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Rose Gold is presented on a bespoke black strap, made from high-grade natural rubber, and which of course is interchangeable with other Linde Werdelin straps, opening up a world of possibilities.

At The Limited Edition, we do have a strong affinity with Linde Werdelin, and that’s all because of the really attractive bold and instantly recognizable design, the exacting standards of manufacture and finishing, as well as the technically excellent Dubois Dépraz movement which has been further modified by the technicians at Linde Werdelin.

Overall, the Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Rose Gold is ideal for the man (or woman – and sure why not?) who lives a wide and varied active life, one who also appreciates a great timepiece but is drawn by the detail, the individuality and the build quality for which Linde Werdelin watches are synonymous.

Another point of interest is because of the capped low production numbers each year, these watches do not appear very often at any significant mark-down, and so are likely to retain a stronger resale value than might be expected with other non-mainstream marques.
