Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon Green

Established in 2002 by friends Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, the watches manufactured by their independent watch company Linde Werdelin have been creating a buzz since making their debut.

In what seems like only a few short years, they have not only succeeded in maintaining a steadily growing fan base, Linde Werdelin have firmly established themselves as pioneers of groundbreaking non-conformist design, which has become their signature across a collection of high quality sports watches.

The Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon – Green is a special edition of the iconic Oktopus collection. Limited to only 88 pieces worldwide, it is a cool, sculpted watch fusing angles and layers in black, gold and green, and it packs a whole lot of presence.

The Oktopus Double Date Carbon features a futuristic and functional case of hand layered 3D Thin Ply™ carbon fibre which is then bonded under immense pressure and machined into its bold and distinctive angular chassis with a satin-smooth touch.

The high-tech black material is finished with subtle striping on its uppermost surfaces, contrasting with circular brushed grain on the bezel and the gold TIN titanium hex socket fixing screws and crown.

Where most companies use a single-piece dial, the Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon dial is a construction of two individual laser cut skeletonised discs. The uppermost element with green detail is almost fully stripped back to the essentials, with the subtle black octopus motif at its centre.

Immediately underneath, the shimmer of the Côtes de Genéve decoration on the brushed black titanium lower disc creates the illusion of rippled water, and two laser cut grilles at the 2 and the 10 reveal the two skeletonised gold date wheels which convene just above the centre point of the dial to display the date where the numerals align.

Beneath the 2.5mm thick sapphire crystal, its skeletonized green and metal dial assembly provides a deep and captivating view of the modified Dubois Dépraz automatic self winding movement below.

Luminous green numerals and detail stand out clearly against the near black background, and the titanium hands and hour indices are filled with a cool grey lume, ensuring excellent legibility in low light conditions. Turned over, the gold TIN treated titanium caseback is adorned with a great octopus engraving, as with a depth rating of 300m we are reminded that this is a serious professional sports watch.

The Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon – Green is presented on a vivid green strap, made from high grade natural rubber and which is of course interchangeable with other Linde Werdelin straps, opening up a world of variables.

At The Limited Edition, we do have a strong affinity with Linde Werdelin, and that’s all because of the really attractive bold and instantly recognizable design, the exacting standards of manufacture and finishing, as well as the technically excellent Dubois Dépraz movement which has been further modified by the technicians at Linde Werdelin.

Overall, the Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon – Green is ideal for the man (or woman – who are we to make that call?) who wants to live a wide and varied active life, one who also appreciates a great timepiece but prefers the individuality and build quality which goes hand in hand with Linde Werdelin.

Another point of interest is because of the capped low production numbers each year, these watches do not appear very often at any significant mark-down, and so are likely to retain a stronger resale value than might be expected with other non-mainstream marques.
