Linde Werdelin 3 Timer Blue

As independent watchmaking first began its most triumphant rise in prominence around the turn of the millennium, to become a vibrant and popular sector in the watch industry, history will observe that among the vanguard of young, tech savvy brands which would embrace the benefits of a new and powerful digital-age tool to engage and attract its fans and customers directly, Linde Werdelin is one of that small number that changed the rules.

Combining cool, contemporary design with the superb build quality required to reliably endure the demands of serious outdoor activities, Linde Werdelin watches were inspired by its co-owner’s passions for the high summits and alpine skiing, to the blue waters of the open sea where it is equally at home, and its collections bring together the brand’s unique style, individuality and all-round wearability.

Designed for the global traveller with a penchant for taking on the rugged outdoors, the Linde Werdelin 3 Timer Blue continues a classic collection which possesses the raw DNA of the brand, and which is as distinctive and unmistakable as any classic sports watch design.

Encased in an angular construction of brushed stainless steel, with flat surfaces, pointed edges and straight lines, and featuring a notched bi-directional rotating bezel which is marked with 24 hour numerals, the 44mm x 46mm case is a conspicuous and purposeful piece, and is presented on a blue rubber strap with pin buckle.

Beneath the sapphire crystal, guilloché lines of latitude and longitude are engraved into a dial of rich blue. Tapering steel hands are accented with Super-LumiNova, as are the applied rhodium plated hour indices, so legibility in low light conditions is good. As well as hours and minutes, a second hour pointer cycles every 24 hours, and works in conjunction with the bezel for a second time zone. As the bezel is rotatable, a third zone can be displayed, with the hour markers on the dial doubling up as a secondary 24 hour reference, so the traveller can easily see what time it is back home, where he is now, as well as the current time in his next destination.

Inside beats the ever reliable ETA 2893 self winding movement, which boasts a power reserve of 42 hours at 28,800 vph. The movement is concealed behind a solid steel screw on caseback with etched LW motif, and protects the mechanism to a depth of 300m.

Produced in a limited edition of just 33 pieces, the Linde Werdelin 3 Timer Blue is a watch which stands out from the masses, and continues the story of one of independent watchmaking’s early stars.
