With its sweeping curves, and pronounced, sculpted lines, the Bridge One by Geneva based Laurent Ferrier is a beautiful and distinguished wristwatch which exudes elegance and sophistication, and a piece which in every detail is manufactured to the uncompromising haute horlogerie standards of this exceptional independent watchmaker and his company.

Inspired by the famous Geneva landmark, the “Passerelle de l’Ile” foot bridge, which as a child had been the view from his bedroom window, Laurent Ferrier has distilled the bridge’s architecture into this remarkable watch, with styling which has a distinctly art-deco appearance, and whose arched profile cossets the wrist in perfect comfort.

Manufactured in 18ct red gold, with immaculately polished surfaces, the case of the Bridge One measures 30mm across and 44mm from end to end. The concave curves of its sides make it narrowest at its midpoint, between the three and nine o’clock positions, and flare out dramatically at the lug ends, while in between the lugs, the central surfaces of the case fall away from the off-rectangular sapphire glass, in a smoothly rounded incline.

Beneath the surface of the crystal, which has been cut in a spherical dome and tinted with a subtle smoky shading, the dial is the pristine white of grand feu enamel, whose unmistakable glassy lustre complements and contrasts with the slate grey markings, which include long and slender indices, with roman numerals at the XII and VI. Following around the straight sides and curved ends of the dial, the minutes track is delicate and classical, while the hour and minute hands are the signature Laurent Ferrier Assegai spears style, and are manufactured in white gold.

Other configurations of the Bridge One are available in stainless steel, with a choice of moka brown or slate grey dials also featuring a small seconds subdial, a feature which has been left out on the gold and grand feu enamel version.

On the underside of the watch, a sapphire caseback reveals the superb in-house manual winding Calibre LF107.01, which has been created specifically for the rectangular confines of the Bridge One collection. Once again, obsessive attention to detail is apparent throughout. The feathered graining of the bands of traditional Côtes de Genève striping stands out on the ruthenium coated plates and bridges, while their edges are defined with mirror polished anglage, to expose the beating heart of the free sprung balance, and offering a glimpse of the gear wheels, and the long blade ratchet system which is visible in the cutaway above the barrel. Beating at 21’600 vib/h, the movement derives an impressive eighty hours from the single barrel.
