KUDOKE K2 ZODIAC SJX TITANIUM LIMITED EDITION REVIEW

A spectacular rendition of Stefan Kudoke’s GPHG award winning masterpiece, the Kudoke K2 Zodiac SJX edition takes this already delightful piece into a new and astrological dimension, with its hand engraved ring of bespoke designed zodiac/numeric symbols which encircle the dial giving the watch an entirely new personality.

Designed in collaboration with internationally renowned Singapore watch journalist Jiaxian SU of SJX Watches fame, the K2 Zodiac SJX edition is a visually arresting piece which brings together the cultural influences of Kudoke’s classically inspired Anglo-Saxon watchmaking and the artistic mystique of the zodiac, whose twelve symbols have been reimagined by Canadian illustraotor Lee-Yuen Rapati to integrate the roman numerals  i, v and x to create a very beautiful and unique set of hour indices.

The K2 Zodiac SJX is manufactured in Grade 5 titanium, a material chosen not only for its lightweight and durable properties, but also because of its distinctive off-grey colour, which accentuates and provides the ideal accompaniment to the rhodiumised engraved detailing on the dial. Measuring 39mm across and 10.7mm tall, the case is finished with graining around the flat-sided waist, and polishing on the bezel and upward-facing surfaces, which is set off with a fluted onion style crown.

Beneath the subtly domed sapphire crystal the layered dial features a sunken central panel of coarse frosted texture in a dark grey anthracite colour which complements the overlying rhodiumised zodiac ring and the titanium of the case. The hour and minute hands are in rose gold, with the Kudoke signature infinity motif as ever integrated into the hour hand. Dominating the upper portion of the dial, the 24-hour, day/night display features the hand engraved disc which defines the K2 series, rotates once per day. Its two halves depict the passage of day and night in rose gold and anthracite, while a tiny sun and moon on the surrounding ring indicate 12 noon and midnight.

On the underside, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the superb proprietary manual winding Kaliber 1-24H which beats within. Once again incorporating the symbolic elements of the zodiac theme into its design, every visible surface is decorated with Kudoke’s hand engraving, with the earth and the sun depicted on the balance cock and balance itself, while elsewhere, stylised interpretations of the zodiac are engraved into the bridge. The K2 Zodiac SJX Titanium is manufactured in a limited edition of only twelve pieces, with a further nine examples also produced with 18ct gold bezel and crown. It is presented on a dark grey Alcantara strap with pin buckle.
