HORAGE OMNIUM GEN 2 ROOT BEER WATCH REVIEW

An exclusive release of 25 pieces, the Omnium Gen 2 Root Beer by Horage is a beautifully crafted timepiece which evolves the highly desirable portfolio of this exciting youthful independent watchmaking company. Exhibiting clean styling and paired back casual elegance, the piece has the uniqueness of a faceted sapphire crystal and a visually pleasing dial arrangement. Powered by the exceptional Horage in-house K1 calibre, the model enjoys the exclusivity of a 25 piece release and is one which demonstrates the horological acumen for which Horage are acclaimed.

The case is manufactured in 904L stainless steel, and has an effortlessly cool aesthetic thanks to its simple profile which is abound with subtle details evocative of Bauhaus architecture. Comprising of a rounded form with a tapering bezel, it features straightened lugs which square off abruptly creating an unexpected yet satisfying angular characteristic. Sized at 40mm and with a case height of 10.6mm, the Omnium Gen 2 Root Beer has been finished with a combination of brushed and polished techniques.

Innovative in its execution, the sapphire crystal has been faceted, and applied with five anti-reflective coatings so that it creates an astounding dégradé effect of varying tones which interplay with the light. Endlessly eye pleasing, it creates the illusion of a multi-toned dial, when in fact the surface below has been rendered in a warm yet resplendent surface, which displays remarkable differing hues, and one which the company have aptly termed as Root Beer.

The time is displayed via broad diamond-cut hour and minutes hands, complemented by a slender and elongated seconds hand with a distinctive diamond shaped insert, and with applied arabic numerals. At the six o’clock location, the power reserve indication has been reduced to its essentia so that it conforms to the overall minimalist styling of the façade, while on the upper dial, a Horage branding motif balances and finishes off this refined dial layout.

An engraved caseback encircles the rear sapphire crystal though which the K1 self winding movement is showcased.  Entirely designed, developed and produced in-house, the calibre boasts a silicon escapement and an impressive 65 hours of power reserve with a signature frequency of 3.5 hz (25’200 vib/h). Block pattern etching on the bridges and a tungsten rotor featuring the Horage logo conform to the overall modern appearance of the calibre and underline the minimalist design demonstrated on every nuance of this exceptional timepiece.

A superb example of modern independent watchmaking finesse, the Horage Omnium Gen 2 Root Beer watch comes presented on a brown calf skin leather strap secured with a pin buckle and with the option of a stainless steel bracelet. Strictly limited in number, this edition will be a 25 piece release.
