In the new for 2017 Chronofighter Superlight Carbon, the Graham watch company have taken their iconic design classic to an eye-popping new level combining vibrant colour and high-tech carbon fibre to create one of this year’s most dramatic and outstanding wristwatches.
Over the passing of more than fifteen years, the Chronofighter has evolved from being a quirky and unusual piece, with its signature ‘lefty’ trigger style chronograph actuator to become the cult favourite it is today. Superb build quality, coupled with high quality Swiss movements has ensured that aside form its impressive appearance, it is also practical to use, and ever reliable.
Boasting a 47mm case, constructed in a block of matte black carbon composite, its sub-100g weight belies its size, and not surprisingly the Superlight indeed wears noticeably lightly on the wrist. Of course the Chronofighter’s most distinctive characteristic is its chronograph pusher system, mounted on the left hand side of the case. Designed specifically for ease of use, the articulated trigger operates the chronograph start/stop with serrated, tactile thumb activation, and fore finger reset pusher grips ensuring a reliable action every time.
The bezel and chronograph features are made from carbon fibre, and its familiar overlaid weave effect continues beneath the domed sapphire crystal too, onto the black dial, which is also made from the ultra strong material. Prominent arabic numerals and black steel hands are vivid in low light thanks to a coat of powerful Super LumiNova.
A turquoise blue border doubles up as tachymetre scale and minutes reference, and the date window is discretely positioned between the 8 and 9 o’clock. A air of recessed subdials at the 3 and 6 interrupt the carbon fibre effect with their circular snailed finish, and house the small constant seconds and the 30-minute chrono counter respectively. The subsidiary indicators are yellow, which complements the theme and also stand out for instant referencing.
Behind a sapphire crystal caseback, with “Superlight Carbon’ motif, beats Graham’s reliable G1747 automatic self-winding movement, delivering energy at a rate of 28,800 vph (4Hz) for up to 48 hours. Visible through the transparent exhibition caseback the rotor and other components have been finished with Côtes de Genève and perlage decoration.
The Chronofighter Oversize Superlight Carbon is presented on an integrated blue natural rubber strap, moulded in a tactile outer surface with Clous de Paris effect and fitted with a black carbon fibre pin buckle.
