GoS NORRSKEN

Renowned for its wonderfully distinctive wristwatches infused with a unique characteristic which perpetuates the centuries-old Nordic tradition of hand forged damascus steel, the Norrsken Collection by Swedish independent watch company GoS exhibits the mystical beauty of the Northern Lights, and a heritage steeped in Viking folklore.

Combining the innovation and creativity of no fewer than five master craftsmen, Norrsken is a wristwatch which is inspired by the spectacular natural phenomena of the Northern Lights, featuring hand crafted dials which transform after darkness falls with their vivid green glow, capturing this spellbinding apparition which illuminates the Nordic night sky, in a display of unparalleled intensity.

Johan Gustaffson’s proficiency for damascus steelwork and Patrik Sjogren’s high-end horological finishing and assembly have ensured that the unique artisan aesthetic of GoS timepieces has found favour with discerning collectors throughout the world, and in working with Mikael Kenlind, James Thompson and Jochen Benzinger, and featuring a premium Swiss Manufacture movement by Schwarz Etienne, the Norrsken is the company’s most outstanding creation to date.

Each of the fifty Norrsken pieces is individually manufactured in a 41.5mm case of damascus steel, whose naturally characteristic irregular finish gives each watch its own signature fingerprint from within its layers of fabricated stainless steel. The round case has a corrugated flank, with polished lugs which curve downward between the case and the strap and the crown, as with all GoS pieces, is inspired by the hilt of a Viking sword.

Beneath the sapphire crystal, the Norrsken dial is complex and truly breathtaking. Its damascus steel given a green hue, the dark and light colours emulate the wispy atmospheric illuminations of the Northern Lights to dramatic effect. An index ring of hand blown Swedish crystal is suspended above the periphery of the dial,  adding a three dimensional effect, and which, when daylight fades into darkness casts a ghostly green glow across the display, thanks to the solid ring of Badgerite luminous mass which is embedded around the dial.

The GoS trademarks of sharply pointed tapering spear-style steel hands and the rotating triskele motif which indicate the constant seconds complete the Nordic effect.

Powering the Norrsken, and visible through the sapphire caseback is a premium Swiss self winding calibre by Schwarz Etienne. Modified by GoS it features a customised micro rotor of green damascus steel, and meticulous haute horlogerie finishing on its plates and polished detailing. Beating at 21’600vib/h (3Hz), the GoS03 calibre boasts an impressive minimum of 86 hours power reserve.

An outstanding piece of contemporary independent watchmaking in daylight or darkness, the Norrsken is is presented on a strap of black polished salmon skin leather with pin buckle, and limited to a production of only fifty pieces, and for the collector who seeks even more exclusivity, possible configurations include a black damascus steel case, polished bezel or even a guilloché dial by Jochen Benzinger.
