A stunning timepiece which boasts a spirited dial arrangement and a supremely crafted watchcase with Damascus steel elements, the GoS Aurora watch evokes the magnificent natural phenomenon, the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.

Every timepiece in the Gos, Gustafsson and Sjögren portfolio is deeply inspired by the wild beauty of Scandinavia. This Independent Watchmaking company is perhaps better described as a creative melting pot of talent in which Master Bladesmith, Johan Gustafsson and Master Watchmaker, Patrik Sjögren merge their individual disciplines to produce beautiful timepieces. Each piece in their portfolio is an ode to the landscape of their home country, the noble land where the Vikings once ruled supreme.

The breath-taking drama of the Aurora Borealis is replicated to superb effect in the dial of the GoS Aurora. Exhibiting endless nuances of blues and greens which blend to create eternal circles, waves and swirls, the dial of the Aurora watch is as unexpected and mysterious as the Aurora itself, which has eluded generations of sky-gazers.

Each dial is individually crafted in the violent heat of the forge. This painstaking process during which multiple layers of hard metal is repeatedly fired and tempered, results in an exquisite sliver of material which displays immeasurable subtleties. Capturing the striking panorama of the Aurora Borealis in every wrist movement, each detail of the dial surface catches and plays with the light, offering a new combination of contrasts from every angle. Under such a hand-crated process, no two dials can, or will, ever be alike.

Providing an impressive frame for the intensity of the dial, the handmade white gold index ring is understated yet majestic. From the centre, the solid white gold hands have been shaped and polished by hand. In deference to Scandinavia’s ancestral styling codes they each take the form of miniature spears, while the Viking-inspired Triskele-shaped small seconds is a diminutive yet compelling addition.

The piece carries a 45mm case featuring contrasting stainless steel and Damascus steel elements. Flawless high-gloss polishing achieved by hand enhances its profile. Paying attention to the minutiae, the GoS name is engraved on the case side while the generous crown has been enhanced with an extra fine-grained Damascus steel pattern.

Turning the piece over, reveals an equally impressive façade. Here one can admire the meticulously finished ETA 6498 calibre which has been refinished and improved to Chronometre Grade by Swiss company, Soprod. Uniquely, the calibre has a ¾ bridge plate made from one piece of solid Damascus steel. The contrast of the woody, organic texture of the handforged patterned elements against the more traditional watchmaking components ensures a matchless aesthetic, which immediately elevates the exclusivity of the piece.

A limited release of just five pieces, each of which will be unique due to the nature of the handforging process, the GoS Aurora watch comes presented on a hand-crafted soft nubuck leather strap fitted with a stainless steel GoS buckle.
