GARRICK S4 ICE BLUE REVIEW

A stunning version of the Garrick S4, crafted exclusively for clients of The Limited Edition, the special S4 Ice Blue timepiece is flawless in its execution and assembly. An embodiment of the traditional hand crafted artisanship exhibited by this Norfolk based atelier, and of the passion for independent watchmaking which is at the core of The Limited Edition concept, this collaborative model is characterised by a supremely elegant aesthetic. Although relatively youthful, Garrick are acclaimed for their impeccable hand crafted timepieces and their meticulously attention to detail.

Demonstrating nuances of quintessential English watchmaking finesse, but with modern mechanical sophistication, their timepieces have become an excellent find for discerning collectors throughout the world.  Created in partnership with The Limited Edition, each S4 Ice Blue model in this exclusive release will be individually produced by hand by their small team of Garrick master watchmakers in their English atelier. The watch is presented in a polished case of 904L stainless steel. Beautifully styled it has a flat waist and rounded bezel, contoured lugs and a squat onion style crown. Sized at 42mm across, and with a height of 10mm, its profile has a discreet wrist presence.  Beneath the sapphire crystal, the dial is graceful yet understated in a manner which is evocative of the uniquely English style.

Featuring a central section, which is embraced and overlapped by a small seconds subdial, these elements have been enhanced with a rose-engine turned guilloché motif whose intricate overlapping engraving catches and plays with the light, creating a mesmerising surface. Instantly elevating the character of the piece, the handwork has been achieved in a stunning shade of icy blue which is unique to this edition. Blending smoothly with the masterful guilloché work, the chapter ring and small seconds surround are individually applied on top and feature black hand-inked roman numerals and markers, while encircling the perimeter of the dial, an ice blue ring adds definition and complements the eye-catching tone of the guilloché. From the centre, the signature Garrick Maritime hour and minute hands with their generous anchor-formed counterweights are a noble feature, while for the small seconds dial, the tiny slender needle-like example is visually delightful.

Finally, a plaque upon which the Garrick name has been inscribed is fixed with visual screws just beneath the 12 o’clock. On the underside, a sapphire caseback reveals the Swiss manual winding movement, which has been significantly modified by Garrick, featuring an in-house produced and finished three quarter plate, which is available with a choice of either rhodium or gold plated options. A beautifully engraved rhodiumised plate covers the barrel and winding mechanism, and a screw-calibrated balance replaces the original, all of which transform the appearance and standing of this popular and reliable Unitas 6498 calibre, and elevate it to Garrick’s high standards.

Fully wound, the BF03 calibre boasts a power reserve of at least forty two hours with a frequency of 18’000 vib/h. A meritorious example of independent English atelier-crafted watchmaking, the exclusive Garrick S4 Ice Blue The Limited Edition model comes presented on a black leather strap secured to the wrist with a pin buckle.
