Having founded his eponymous watch company in 2004, Count Jérôme de Witt, a descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte, draws upon his noble heritage and his passion for collecting and restoring vintage cars, in order to create a portfolio rich with distinguished timepieces. Always produced in limited edition releases or small series productions, exclusivity, and high-quality craftsmanship is a feature of every DeWitt watch
Created with a nod to automotive styling, the visually stunning DeWitt Academia Endless Drive wristwatch asserts the innovative spirit of the DeWitt Manufacture.
At the centre of a handcrafted matte black dial, a unique and wholly unconventional power reserve indication takes up position. Here, a helical screw linked to the power reserve’s winding system rotates and dominates, adding an industrial dimension to this stunning timepiece. When the barrel is wound, the screw slides on its longitudinal axis, displaying a green indication at the 12 o’clock location. As the reserve of power decreases, the screw rotates, revealing a red indication. An open section of the dial offers a glimpse deep into the mechanism of this exquisite little “drive shaft”.
At either side of the power reserve, the hours and minutes, located at 9 and 3 o’clock respectively are indicated via silvered white discs with 5N gold surrounds, which rotate around a fixed gear-shaped centre. Triangular markers in 5N gold serve to indicate the corresponding time.
In order to create this ode to automotive mechanics, the Master Watchmakers at DeWitt adapted their standard DeWitt 5050 automatic thus creating the DW1654. The movement has a variable inertia balance wheel which beats at 21,600 vph and consists of 320 components.
Housed within a 42.5mm 18-carat rose gold case with case-side “Imperial Column” black rubber inserts, the watch wears on a black satin calf skin leather strap with triple-folding 18-carat rose gold cover engraved with the signature DeWitt “W”.
Although brimming with unconventionality, the Endless Time wristwatch is characterised by the use of luxury materials and has been flawlessly finished throughout. With its handless time indication and unmistakeable automotive-inspired elements, this exceptional piece is a confident design from a brand who are unafraid to constantly challenge the possibilities of watchmaking
