CVSTOS do not make watches for the meek, the introverted nor the faint of heart. Uncompromisingly daring, and even confrontational in-your-face designs sets the pulse racing from first sight. Using groundbreaking high tech manufacturing processes, these bold timepieces push the boundaries of style and watchmaking perceptions in an oversize blaze of black steel, rose gold and precious stones, with skeletonised dials and meticulous attention to the minutiae, CVSTOS are big adventurous watches for big adventurous lifestyles.
The incredible CVSTOS Koi Tourbillon is no exception to the house rule; it’s massive 54mm x 41mm case is completely swathed with 4.9 karats of black diamonds which perfectly mimic the dappled effect of the sharkskin strap, creating a continuous textured flow and a fitting surround for the flurry of colour and motion beneath the expansive sapphire crystal. Inspired by the decorated Japanese Nishkigoi fish with its distinctive flamboyant pattern and bright colours the CVSTOS Koi Tourbillon features a pair of the exotic animals, seemingly suspended as in clear water as the dial plunges down to the pared back layers of its multi-dimensional construction, and drawing the eye on in towards the hand winding movement below and the graceful motion of the tourbillon’s rotating seconds disc, which is segmented into three 20-second partitions.
The two Koi have been painstakingly sculpted and then enameled and decorated entirely by hand. Majestically patrolling their domain their ‘splashes’ have been captured in decorative rose gold frolics. The mainspring, which is normally sealed out of sight in its barrel, can be seen beneath the gold ‘lotus flower’ with a pair of dragonflies hovering above, imperceptibly rotating as the barrel dispenses its reserve of 60 hours.
To accommodate the decorative features, the transmission has been arranged vertically and the tourbillon itself has been positioned just out of view, although the seconds disc is directly attached and without hands, it completes a rotation every 60 seconds. Elsewhere rose gold hour markers and edgeless cigar shaped hands complete this hypnotizing vista. For the case, a sculpted tonneau is formed in black steel, with rose gold and polished steel adornments and prominent crown topped with an ornate gold cabochon.
To the reverse, the black steel and rose gold caseback is formed to house a large exhibition sapphire window, revealing the noble tourbillon and the inner workings of the CVSTOS 2600C manual winding openworked movement inside. The CVSTOS Koi Tourbillon is a visually striking medley of motion and colour; it is fine complication watchmaking tradition celebrated in a futuristic, outgoing and imposing outfit. It’s a large piece but despite its substantial proportions wears surprisingly comfortably on the wrist. The distinctive galuchat sharkskin strap secures to the watch case with a robust bolt and nut arrangement, and fastens with an adjustable folding clasp.
An extraordinary timepiece with enormous presence, the CVSTOS Koi Tourbillon certainly makes a bold statement, yet one which invokes appreciative admiration, soon after that first curious inspection of this very beautiful timepiece. The watch is supplied brand new in box with full CVSTOS manufacturer’s warranty and all accompanying documentation.
