With its nautical flags for hour markers and twelve-sided bezel, the Admiral’s Cup by Corum has been an enduring and unmistakable classic, born to a life of maritime adventure, from a brand which has resolutely followed its own path, with spirited design and novel signatures.
Encased in an impressive 45mm case of titanium, with satin brushed and polished surface finishes, the Admiral AC One is already a piece of considerable presence, with its sporty, rugged good looks, and with a dial made from wooden deck with a weathered appearance, the effect is cool and quite different, and it’s a watch that really stands out from the conventional.
Around the wooden dial, the twelve applied hour markers are distinctly nautical, even to the eye of the landlubber, and are in fact numerically true to the language of the International Code of Signals, and the pennants used by mariners around the globe’s seas and oceans. The hour and minute hands are hollowed out, save for the coat of powerful Super LumiNova at the tip, so even in low light conditions, the legibility is always reliably clear. The second-hand sweeps smoothly around, thanks to the 28,800 vph of the movement within, and it is balanced by the Corum key motif. The only other feature at the six is the date, which is displayed on a white background through a square metal window.
The case is constructed from grade five titanium; its surfaces finished with smooth satin brush and high polishing, and is fitted with a sapphire crystal on its front and rear. Sandwiched between the bezel and case, and around its side, brown inlays complement the wooden dial, and extend over the prominent shoulders which protect the screw-in crown. Rated to 100 metres, the Corum Admiral AC One is a luxurious all-rounder which is light and durable.
Inside, the Corum CO 082 self winding movement is good for 42 hours of power reserve, and the wheel-like spokes of the oscillating weight is viewed through the exhibition caseback.
A light brown calfskin strap with white stitching detail fits snugly to the case and secures with a robust titanium pin buckle.
