Featuring classical styling throughout, the Ball Trainmaster Endeavour Chronometer conceals an abundance of modern watchmaking innovations behind its elegant façade. Although the piece commemorates the historically important South Sea voyage of explorer James Cook, it also pays an authentic tribute to the timepiece which ensured a safe passage for his ship HMS Endeavour and her crew.
While the Mariners of the day gave credit to Captain Cook for his skilful navigation of the world’s uncharted oceans, he in turn attributed John Harrison’s H4 timepiece, which he carried on board during his exploration of the South Seas, for its assistance in determining his vessel’s global positioning. The piece, considered to be the first of its kind capable of maintaining accuracy at sea engendered a term still used to this day, that of “Marine Chronometer”
Powered by a Chronometer Certified COSC calibre, the Ball Trainmaster Endeavour Chronometer pays tribute to both Cook and Harrison’s achievements through its supreme accuracy and its exquisite, traditional aesthetics, which recall the refinement of the H4.
The piece carries a 40 mm stainless steel case, with polished and brushed finishes. Beyond its trim bezel, the pristine white enamel dial has been graced with blued hands, which are complemented by James Cook’s signature on the lower dial.
On the perimeter, a chapter ring separates scripted Arabic numerals on the outer, and wispy, elongated Roman numerals towards the centre of the dial. Elsewhere, a diminutive date window is located at the 3 o’clock position. Despite its overall vintage appearance, after dark the dial comes to life, enabled by the innovative, self-powered micro gas tubes, which are a signature feature of Ball watches.
The piece is powered by the Chronometer Certified automatic Ball Calibre RR1101-C mechanical movement, which has been sealed against water resistance to up to 50 meters. The calibre is also guarded against the ruinous effects of magnetic interference to an intensity of 4,800A/m. And, the inclusion of BALL’s patented Amortiser anti-shock system ensures that the energy created from side shocks is absorbed, thus limiting the possibility of damage.
A superb timepiece endowed with accuracy and impeccable styling, the Ball Trainmaster Endeavour Chronometer wears on a stainless steel bracelet and is an exclusive 250 piece limited edition.
