Limited to only 8 pieces, the Atelier Holgur Frømand Edition Fumeé Silver Tide watch introduces a cool grey gradient dial to the collection of this exciting young watchmaking company. Housed in a robust 40mm case of Grade 5 titanium, which has a water resistance of 300m, this superb piece has all the credentials demanded of a modern diver’s watch, and its desirability is further elevated with the beautifully executed self-winding movement by high-end Swiss movement specialist, Schwarz Etienne. The model is supplied with two straps made from recycled ocean plastic.
Borne from a love of the oceans and of horology Atelier Holgur was co-founded by Asbjørn Simonen-Andersen, Matthew de Bakker and Ferdinand de Bakker. Although relatively new to the landscape of independent horology, the company have redefined the diver’s watch with the creation of their superb Frømand watch which blends luxury with practicality. Featuring a dial rendered with a vivid red gradient, this new 8 piece edition extends their growing portfolio and adds a colourful and exclusive option to the collector.
Distinctive for its unexpected angles and sculpted profile, the casing is manufactured from Grade 5 titanium and is sized at 40mm across with a depth of 13.5mm. Styled with a pronounced crown guard, to safeguard against accidental movement while submerged, the case extends to meet the strap, but a well-considered approach to design ensures that despite its strong wrist presence, the ergonomic feel of the watch is not compromised in any way. Enhanced by a combination of polished and micro-blasted finishing, the case is topped with a unidirectional black DLC coated bezel equipped with 120 clicks, and the housing is sealed to withstand a water resistance of up to 300m.
The dial fades from near black at the perimeter to pale grey in the centre, and it features a subtle sunburst effect. In contrast, the small seconds display at the six o’clock displays a fine snailed texturing adding interest and depth. Despite its incredibly stylish appearance the dial is entirely utilitarian, with robust indices, chunky hour and minutes hands, and a liberal coating of three dimensional luminescent material on the elements to ensure legibility in poor light conditions.
The watch is powered by a Schwarz-Etienne ASE 200 automatic movement, commissioned specially by Atelier Holgur for the Frømand, and it features an engraved micro-rotor enabling a power reserve of 86 hours. Uniquely for a watch in this genre, the calibre features a superlative level of detailing, with skeltonised bridges showcasing microblasted finishing, hand-polished bevelling on the edges and polished screws. Beating at 21’600 vib/h, the movement displays an anthracite aesthetic that is entirely in-keeping with the contemporary design language of the model.
The Atelier Holgur Frømand Edition Fumeé Silver Tide comes supplied with two straps made from recycled ocean plastic. In addition to an example fitted with a Hook & Loop fastener and pin system that gives the wearer a full appreciation of the movement through the case back sapphire crystal, an additional single loop diving strap is also included. The model is strictly limited to only 8 pieces.
